‘Southern Charm’ Fans Suffer “Severe Anxiety” Watching Cast Drive Holding Phones

Southern Charm fans are begging the cast to hang up the phone when they hit the road. Stressed viewers blasted the Bravo show’s stars on Twitter after they were filmed driving while holding phones in their hands. In one Season 8 scene that truly set fans off, cast member Kathryn Dennis cruises through the rain while clutching her phone and driving the car with her knee.

The moment elicited a flood of concerned tweets from fans, the bulk of which questioned why the network couldn’t just hook the cast up with some simple Bluetooth technology.

One viewer asked, “Is Kathryn in a self driving car or is she really driving with only her knee and no hands while it’s raining talking on the phone? Unhinged. #SouthernCharm”

And while watching reality TV is generally supposed to be a chill, guilty pleasure, plenty of fans said watching last night’s episode spiked their blood pressure.

“The amount of phone in hand, no hands on the wheel driving on southern charm stresses me out !!” one fan wrote. “Like they can afford Bluetooth.”

Another added, “Im getting anxiety watching Kathryn driving while talking on the phone with ZERO hands on the wheel & steering with her knee 😳#SouthernCharm.”

One viewer suggested the network should step in and intervene, tweeting, “Can Bravo and its production companies force cast members to stop using their phones while they drive? Hands free technology is widely available #SouthernCharm.”

Other fans wondered if what Kathryn was doing was even legal. One tweeted, “Is it not illegal to use the phone while driving in Charleston? #SouthernCharm.”

Southern Charm is filmed in Charleston, South Carolina, where it is illegal to “use a wireless electronic communication device to compose, send, or read a text-based communication while operating a motor vehicle on the public streets and highways,” per the state’s Department of Public Safety.

While Kathryn’s multitasking behind the wheel caused a scare for Southern Charm viewers, thankfully the reality star — and other drivers — were unharmed.

Southern Charm Season 8 is now streaming on Peacock. Watch new episodes live Thursdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
