The 2022 Primetime Emmy Award nominations have just been released, making for a long list of some of the top series and performances across all sorts of genres, languages, and media. While broadcast TV shows like Abbott Elementary and Saturday Night Live got some nods, it was far and away the streaming platforms who came out on top of this year’s list, racking up impressive numbers of nominations like Succession‘s jaw-dropping 25.

While there were so many incredible shows nominated for Emmys this year, there are several that you should make a priority to start streaming ASAP. These are among the most lauded, gripping, and buzz-worthy titles we’ve seen hit screens near us not only within the last year but within the last decade, so it’s imperative that you catch yourself up on them before the actual award show airs on September 12.

If you’re looking for a reason to watch (or rewatch) all of Succession, it’s hard to argue with the 25 Emmy nominations it received this year for its third season. The show follows head of an international media conglomerate Logan Roy and his family members as they duke it out for who will take over for their aging patriarch to run the riches-generating business. There’s biting humor, there’s intense family drama, there’s a little bit of everything one could hope for, really, in this impeccably-written and acted HBO Original series that has already won nine Emmys over its two season run.

A breakout hit of 2021, this HBO Original satirical comedy-drama anthology picked up a whopping 20 nominations at this year’s Emmys, including five out of the seven total women nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. In its first season, The White Lotus follows the various guests and employees of the titular high-class tropical resort over the course of a week, delving into their professional and personal lives as they all seem to completely (and oh so deliciously) unravel out of control throughout the show’s six episodes.

After cleaning up at last year’s Emmys with an impressive seven wins for its very first season, Ted Lasso is looking to top that number this year and seems poised to do so, with 20 nominations earned for its successful sophomore season. The heartfelt Apple TV+  Original sports comedy-drama follows the highs and lows of American football coach Ted Lasso as he’s hired to manage the struggling English Premier League soccer team, AFC Richmond. So much more than just a sports show, Ted Lasso is full of lovable characters, realistic struggles, and a refreshing portrayal of both male friendships and mental health.

The Korean-language Netflix Original survival drama series turns beloved Korean childhood schoolyard games on their head, giving them a terrifying and deadly twist as hundreds of cash-strapped players gather to compete for a life-changing prize. Squid Game is truly one of the most unique shows to come about in recent memory, and this original premise coupled with the sharp writing, dedicated acting, and mind-boggling set design makes for a viewing experience you won’t forget.

Last year, Hacks won three Emmys for its first season, including the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series earned by the legendary Jean Smart. The HBO Max Original comedy-drama returned for its second season with guns a-blazing, and it paid off, earning the show 17 Emmy noms this year. Hacks revolves around the dark mentorship between veteran Vegas stand-up comedian Deborah Vance (Smart) and 25 year-old upstart comedy-writer Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder). These unlikely outcasts come together to make a surprisingly potent and successful pair, culminating in a brilliant show that only continues to get better and better.

Yet another show on this list entering its sophomore season, Only Murders In The Building is a Hulu Original mystery-comedy series that stars comedy legends Steve Martin and Martin Short in addition to triple-threat star actress Selena Gomez, combining to create an absolutely epic trio of strangers living in the same New York City apartment complex who bond over their shared love of true crime. That shared passion ends up dragging them into the murder case of a victim living in their own building and leads them to utilize their unique individual skillsets combined with their cumulative true crime knowledge to try to solve the case themselves. With a plot and cast like that, it’s no mystery why Only Murders In The Building earned 17 Emmy nominations this year.

For its second season, hit HBO Original series Euphoria majorly upped the ante with more tense teen drama, cringe-worthy moments (mostly from Cassie, portrayed by Sydney Sweeney, who earned nominations this year for her work in both this show and The White Lotus), and emotional portrayals of love, friendship, and heartbreak. The Zendaya-led series follows often intense and gritty lives of a group of high school students through their confrontations with trauma, identity, drugs, sex, and more. With 16 nominations to its name this year and a boatload of memes, social media discourse, and star-making performances to go along with it, there’s no doubt that Euphoria is a show that demands to be watched now.
