‘This Is Us’ Fans Furious as Show, Mandy Moore, Snubbed by Emmys: “It Just Doesn’t Make Sense”

This Is Us had its series finale back in May, and the show provided fans six seasons worth of an emotional roller coaster ride courtesy of the Pearson family. Mandy Moore, who played matriarch Rebecca Pearson, gave an especially moving performance during the final season, in which her character battled Alzheimer’s Disease and eventually died. Her performance was so affecting that many fans are infuriated that neither she nor the show received any Emmy nominations today. (The nominees in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series are Jodie Comer for Killing Eve, Laura Linney for Ozark, Melanie Lynskey for Yellowjackets, Sandra Oh for Killing Eve, Reese Witherspoon for The Morning Show, and Zendaya for Euphoria.)

Moore previously received a nomination in 2019 for the role, but as her character grew older, fans say her performance was especially deserving. “The Way Mandy Moore Plays Rebecca At Every Age, and makes me forget it’s not like 3 different Characters is AMAZING ACTING,” wrote one fan.

Another criticized the academy for not recognizing Moore or the show itself for its final season, writing, “This Is Us completely snubbed for its final season. Mandy Moore giving a career highlight performance portraying a mother in all ages and with alzheimer’s and the emmys decided to snub her again. Maybe if you actually recognised talent people would take you seriously. #Emmys”

Another fan felt equally aggrieved, saying the snub “doesn’t sit right with my soul.”

During filming, Moore’s co-star Sterling K. Brown was passionate about Moore’s work on the show this season, posting a video in which he declared, “Mandy Moore is killing the game and she deserves to be recognized!” After the nominations were announced, one fan posted the speech, writing, “How dare #EmmyNoms snub @TheMandyMoore and @NBCThisisUs on their final season?! How fucking dare they? Y’all will be hearing from @SterlingKBrown’s lawyer.”

Among some of the other surprising Emmy snubs this year were the Apple TV+ series Pachinko which was shut out of all the major categories, and the cable mega-hit Yellowstone. This year’s Emmy Awards will air at 8/7c on Sept. 12 on NBC.
