Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell Join Apple TV+’s Monsterverse Series

We love to see a wholesome father-son bonding moment — especially if it means joining a live-action monster series. Apple TV+ announced today that legendary actor Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt Russell, who you may recognize from the Disney+ show Falcon and the Winter Soldier or Hulu’s Under the Banner of Heavenhave joined the currently untitled monster series based on Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise.

Coming after the battle of Godzilla and the Titans, which leveled San Francisco and left the shocking realization that monsters exist, the series will follow one family’s journey for the truth where they uncover buried secrets and a legacy linking them to a secret organization called Monarch, according to a press release provided to Decider.

The duo are set to star alongside a growing ensemble cast including F9 actress Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Zack Snyder’s Justice League star Kiersey Clemons, Mare of Easttown actor Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski.

The upcoming show has notable key players working on production such as Emmy award-winning director Matthew Shakman, known best for WandaVision, who will direct the show’s first two episodes and serve as an executive producer on the series. It is also executive produced by co-creators Chris Black, who has worked on Star Trek: Enterprise and will also act as showrunner, alongside Matt Fraction, who wrote the comics Hawkeye was partially based on.

Legendary’s Monsterverse began with Godzilla (2014), which was followed by Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), and Godzilla vs. Kong (2021). The latest iteration in the universe is the new anime series Skull Island.

This series will be the first time the Russells have acted together since Wyatt played a younger version of his dad in the 1998 drama Soldier. Details on their roles and a premiere date have not yet been announced.
