Whoopi Goldberg Schools Lindsey Granger After She Blames Dems for Failure to Codify Roe v. Wade: “Not Like They Weren’t Trying”

Lindsey Granger is back on The View and stirring up controversy amongst her co-hosts. On Wednesday’s episode, Granger — a conservative commentator who sometimes fills in as a guest host — battled it out with Whoopi Goldberg over what she perceived as lack of action from democrats, whom she accused of letting Roe v. Wade get overturned when they were unable to codify the law.

Before Granger butted heads with Goldberg, she sparred with Joy Behar, who was giving it her all after a week off from The View. During a conversation about democrats’ plans to pass a bill codifying same-sex marriage, Granger said people had been “watching their spouses die and having no access to their resources” before the landmark ruling in 2015, which legalized same-sex marriage.

Her comment prompted Behar to chime in with her own barb about the reversal of Roe v. Wade, interrupting Granger to add, “Now they’re gonna watch women die from botched abortions. Let’s see if they care,” she said, referring to republicans. “They don’t. They don’t.”

Granger replied, “You say for 40 years, republicans have been trying to get rid of Roe v. Wade, right? If that’s the case, under Bill Clinton and under Obama you had the chance to codify this as you just said, and you guys decided not to.”

As Granger and Behar began to talk over one another, Goldberg stepped up to shut down the argument and correct Granger.

“It’s not that they decided not to. They couldn’t get it done,” she told Granger, who was not satisfied with Goldberg’s answer. She shot back, “because democrats couldn’t agree that enough was in one bill under Bill Clinton.”

As she began to say, “under Obama it was the campaign slogan—,” Goldberg wasn’t having it, and went off on her co-host.

“For whatever reason, they couldn’t get it done,” she repeated. “It’s not like they weren’t trying. It’s not like it wasn’t a conversation. It’s not like it wasn’t in the zeitgeist. I always like to try to see everybody’s side, but the bottom line is, no one ever thought, because every time it would come up people were strong and said, ‘No, no, this is the law.'”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
