Alyssa Farah Griffin Decries Fellow Republicans on ‘The View’ for Voting Against Codifying Gay Marriage: “Astounding”

Alyssa Farah Griffin is back on The View, and the guest co-host is using her spot at the table to call out her fellow Republicans over their latest snafu. After 157 conservative politicians voted against a House bill to codify gay marriage, Griffin snapped at her party for their “astounding” decision.

“They’re on the wrong side of this,” she began. “On the one hand, I’m pleased that the House was able to pass codifying marriage equality into law, but the number of Republicans that were against it — it’s 2022. This is the easiest issue.”

Griffin continued, “Seventy-one percent of Americans are for marriage equality. Sixty-five percent of young people, Republicans under 30, are also for it. I bet the number is even bigger than that. We have lived in a world where that’s all we know. Our friends are married, they have kids —”

Whoopi Goldberg interrupted to point out that some Republicans are “actually gay folks,” to which Griffin replied, “Exactly!,” adding, “It’s astounding to me. If there is one message I could deliver to my fellow Republicans: this should be the easiest vote you’ll ever take.”

“My one fear from the flip side, I think there are 10 Republican votes in the Senate. Chuck Schumer said he’s counting those votes to see if it’s the case,” Griffin said, referring to the 10 Senate Republicans needed to protect same-sex marriage under law under the Respect for Marriage Act.

“Ron Johnson from Wisconsin, who’s a very MAGA conservative, actually said he would support it,” Griffin said. “I hope Chuck Schumer will bring this up for a vote, because I worry he won’t want to give a win to moderate Republicans who are up for re-election.

“So on both sides, do not play politics,” she continued. “This is families, these are American couples, parents. It’s not right.”
