‘Eragon’ The Series Is Coming to Disney+

Eragon is roaring to life onscreen once again. The fantasy novel franchise is being developed into a television series at Disney+, according to VarietyThe series, which is in early stages of development, will come from Eragon author Christopher Paolini, who will co-write the show.

The series will pull inspiration from Paolini’s The Inheritance Cycle novels, a four-book franchise that began in 2002 with the publication of Eragon, and continued with 2005’s Eldest, 2008’s Brisingr and came to an end in 2011 with Inheritance.

Bert Salke, a producer on the upcoming Disney+ Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, will executive produce the Eragon series. No casting announcement have been made yet, and additional details about the series have not been revealed.

Paolini’s first Eragon novel follows its titular character, a farm boy who discovers a magical stone that he soon learns is actually a dragon egg. The egg hatches into a creature whom he names Seraphina, but Eragon and Seraphina soon have to flee when an evil king sets his sights on the dragon. With the help of his new friend, a Dragon Rider named Brom, Eragon learns all about Seraphina and how to became a Dragon Rider himself.

Disney’s take on Eragon isn’t the first time the popular fantasy novel has been adapted for the screen. The book was previously turned into a 2006 film titled Eragon starring Ed Speleers, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Guillory, Robert Carlyle, Djimon Hounsou, Garrett Hedlund, Joss Stone, John Malkovich and Rachel Weisz.

The film was not exactly a smash hit with critics, and didn’t go over too well with fans either. The hashtag #EragonRemake began trending on Twitter in 2021 in an effort from fans to get a new take on the film, according to Variety. With today’s news, it looks like they’re finally getting their wish!
