What We Know About Netflix’s ‘Pinocchio’ 2022: Trailer, Release Date

You’ve seen the story of Geppetto and his magical wooden puppet before, but you’ve never heard the tale of Pinocchio quite like this. The trailer for the upcoming animated Netflix movie, Pinocchio, dropped today, revealing Guillermo del Toro’s darker take on the tale made famous by the 1940 Disney cartoon.

Not to be confused with Disney’s upcoming live-action Pinocchio film starring Tom Hanks—which is coming to Disney+ on September 8—this animated film reframes this famous story to take place in 1930s Fascist Italy. This version of Pinocchio isn’t so innocent—he’s a troublemaker who refuses to listen to his father/inventor.

Based on the trailer, which you can watch above, it’s going to be a visual spectacle, with breathtaking animation that turns not just Pinocchio, but all of the characters, into wooden carvings. And it doesn’t hurt that the voice acting cast is stacked, featuring Ewan McGregor as Sebastian J. Cricket, David Bradley as Master Geppetto, Gregory Mann as Pinocchio, Finn Wolfhard as Candlewick, Cate Blanchett as Sprezzatura the Monkey, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman, Christoph Waltz, and Tilda Swinton.

Here’s what we know so far about the Netflix Pinocchio movie.
