This week, right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is headed to court, to face trial for defamation charges to determine what he will pay to the family of a child killed during the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. At the same time, a new documentary, Alex’s War, is opening in select theaters.

Directed by Alex Lee Moyer, Alex’s War details Jones’ 25-year journey from a well-liked local radio host in Austin, Texas, to one of the most notorious and hated figures behind spreading some of the right-wing’s most outlandish conspiracy theories. Featuring behind-the-scenes footage from his studio and rallies, and “full access” to the Infowars archives, it’s sure to be an interesting watch.

No. Alex’s War will not be on HBO Max at the same time it is in theaters, because it is not a Warner Bros. film, and because HBO Max will no longer be streaming theatrical movies in 2022. (Last year, Warner Bros. opted to simultaneously release its theatrical slate on streaming, meaning HBO Max subscribers could watch movies like Matrix Resurrections at home. This year, however, Warner Bros. theatrical movies will have a 45-day theaters-only run before moving to HBO Max.) It’s possible that Alex’s War will be on HBO and HBO Max someday, but it will not be any time soon.
