Jake Gyllenhaal to Star in ‘Road House’ Remake on Prime Video

We once went crazy for Swayze, but now we can ache for Jake. It’s been over 30 years since Road House hit theaters and now it’s getting its own reimagined take, trading out the late (and beloved) Patrick Swayze for Academy Award-winning Jake Gyllenhaal in a new version of the cult classic, coming from Prime Video.

Gyllenhaal stars as a former UFC fighter who begins working as a bouncer at a “rough-and-tumble roadhouse in the Florida Keys.” His character soon discovers that nothing is what it seems in this “tropical paradise.”

“I’m thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved Road House legacy,” director Doug Liman said in a release provided to Decider. “And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role.”

“The original Road House has a special place in my heart and I am so excited to bring this newly imagined version to audiences around the world. Doug and I have each made some big, boisterous action movies and are ready to bring everything we have to this one,” Joel Silver, producer of this take as well as the original 1989 film, said in the same release.

Alongside Gyllenhaal, the cast will also include Billy Magnussen, The Suicide Squad star Daniela Melchior, Gbemisola Ikumelo from A League of Their OwnThe White Lotus actor Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier  of A Black Lady Sketch Show, You star Travis Van Winkle, B.K. Cannon from Why Women Kill, Broad City actor Arturo Castro, Dominique Columbus, Beau Knapp, and Bob Menery.

While there is no official release date, Road House will go into production this month in the Dominican Republic and will be available to stream on Prime Video upon its release.
