Selena Gomez ‘Working Girl’ Remake in Development

Selena Gomez has done kids shows, murder-mystery shows, and now… Revivals? If you asked me, I’d say Gomez is a real working girl, and, funnily enough, she’s also in final negotiations with 20th Century to produce a reboot of the 1988 comedy Working Girl. The new version of the classic will likely premiere on Hulu, as reported by Deadline.

The revival is reported to feature Gomez as a producer, with Ilana Pena, creator of the Disney+ show Diary of a Future President, adapting the script.

While it’s unclear if Gomez is going to also star in the reboot as no cast has been announced, and we don’t yet know what the plot will be for the new version, the original Working Girl featured Melanie Griffith as a New York City receptionist who assumes the identity of her boss, Sigourney Weaver, while she’s in the hospital with a broken leg, and strikes up a major deal with an investment broker, played by Harrison Ford.

The original Working Girl movie scored six Oscar nominations in 1989. And what better time to bring this classic back than the age of ’80s revivals? Top Gun: Maverick did numbers at the box office. And just this morning, Prime Video announced a remake of Road House with Jake Gyllenhaal set to star.

It’s also been a busy year for Gomez. Fans who grew up watching her on Wizards of Waverly Place now have a broader sense of the actress’ talents as she produces and stars opposite Steve Martin and Martin Short in the Hulu hit series, Only Murders in the Building, which is currently on its second season. It was recently announced that the show is up for three Emmy nominations, though annoyingly not for Gomez. Guess that girl has to work harder?
