Ron DeSantis Refused To Appear On ‘The View’ After Show’s Hosts Called Him “Fascist,” “Bigot,” and “Homicidal”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is waging war against The View. The Republican politician’s deputy press secretary, Bryan Griffin, said that the show invited DeSantis to join them as a guest on an upcoming episode, but the governor turned down the offer after being publicly blasted by The View co-hosts on multiple occasions, The New York Post reports.

Griffin claimed in a Monday tweet that The View had emailed DeSantis’ office asking the governor to appear on the show. He shared, “@TheView emailed our office on Friday asking for us to arrange an appearance from Governor DeSantis on the show. ‘We would be honored,’ they wrote.”

Beneath his tweet, Griffin posted a clip from Monday’s episode of The View, in which guest co-host Ana Navarro directly shamed DeSantis for focusing on drag queens and not the larger issues the state is facing after the governor complained about a restaurant throwing a drag show with children in the audience.

Griffin also shared a copy of his response to The View‘s invitation, which read, in part: “Are the hosts of the View really interested in hearing from Gov. DeSantis about all the important work he is doing on behalf of Floridians to protect their health and livelihood, to stand up for parents and children, and to defend freedom?”

He then posted multiple statements made by co-hosts of The View over the past year, including Joy Behar characterizing the governor as a “homicidal sociopath” and and Sunny Hostin slamming him as “a fascist and a bigot.”

Griffin wrote in his reply, “Which of the following statements from the hosts of the View do you recommend our team consider when deciding if the interview will be a genuine pursuit of the truth?”

DeSantis is a frequent target on The View for his conservative politics, but he wouldn’t be the first guest to come on the show after being bashed by the co-hosts. The View invited Kellyanne Conway, former Senior Counselor to Donald Trump, onto the show in May to predictably messy results.

Her appearance, which included a tiff with guest co-host and former Trump staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin, had viewers blasting the episode as a “shit show” and questioning why The View even invited her.

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
