‘Mrs. Fletcher,’ ‘Moonshot,’ and More Have Disappeared From HBO Max

Something eerie seems to be a-brewing over at HBO Max, and subscribers want answers. After six Max Originals were quietly removed from the platform with no forewarning, many are noticing some of their other favorite shows are missing as well. So from us to you, HBO Max: what the heck is going on?!

It was odd enough that Warner Bros. Discovery announced earlier this week that they scrapped Batgirl, a movie that cost them over $70 million to make and was in its final stages of post-production, but now Variety has reported six more titles were kicked to the curb.

According to the outlet, the Lana Condor and Cole Sprouse-led rom-com Moonshot (which just premiered on the streamer in March!), Melissa McCarthy’s Superintelligence, the 2020 remake of The Witches starring Anne Hathaway and Octavia Spencer, Seth Rogen’s An American Pickle, Locked Down, and Charm City Kings are all missing from the library. The odd part, however, is that they are all Warner Bros. movies that were streaming on HBO Max. (Of note, most of these movies are still available for rental and purchase on VOD services like Apple and Vudu.)

Movies aren’t the only ones being mysteriously thrown away. One Twitter user pointed out that the 2016 series Vinyl, which was executive produced by Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger, and the Kathryn Hahn comedy series Mrs. Fletcher were also among those missing.

Lena Dunham’s Camping, Run starring Merritt Wever, K Street, and Here and Now are some other titles that seemingly vanished. PopCulture reported that Cartoon Network and Adult Swim content as well as TBS and TNT shows such as The Last O.G, Snowpiercer, and Amsterdam were no longer appearing on the platform, despite WarnerMedia owning both cable channels.

Seeing as this has been happening for weeks, HBO Max’s Twitter responded to one curious subscriber last month saying, “Thanks for your interest in HBO Max content. As we work to bring together HBO Max and discovery+, we’re making some changes to our services. Part of that process includes the removal of select content. Thanks.”

However, one Reddit post suggested that as a result of the merger, the content is being removed so it can be resold elsewhere, per PopCulture.
