Things have never been more stressful for fans of Better Call Saul. With only one episode left to go, there’s no telling how this prequel will end. Will Jimmy and Kim make it out of this whole ordeal okay? Will their pasts come back to haunt them? And most excitingly of all, will we get more Breaking Bad cameos?

Of course, we don’t have any definite insights into what will happen next. But we do have some wild fan theories. From our saddest takes to our most hopeful dreams, here are Decider’s favorite theories about the ending of Better Call Saul.

1

Jimmy will be arrested.

This seems like the most likely option. As Decider’s Alex Zalben pointed out, Walt died. Jesse escaped. That just leaves Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) to serve actual prison time.

There are two ways this could play out. Jimmy could try to escape, and be arrested by police. But we know he’s too smart for that. The more narratively satisfying possibility is for Jimmy to turn himself in. Kim (Rhea Seehorn) begged for him to do as much in her last phone call to Jimmy. And after that call, we saw that her words got to him. When Jimmy confronted Marion (Carol Burnett) in “Waterworks”, he could have snatched the Life Alert from her or tried to blackmail her into keeping quiet. Instead, he let her call the police before fleeing. Clearly, Jimmy is feeling some guilt. But will he actually repent?

Jimmy will escape but has to live out the rest of his life in fear.

This seems in line with the sad, somber tone that Better Call Saul has perfected. Marion and Ask Jeeves discovered Jimmy’s identity as Saul Goodman. So it’s entirely plausible that Jimmy will use the vacuum cleaner guy to restart his life one last time. Only this time around, Jimmy will make sure not to make any sort of lasting relationship with anyone, dooming this sad clown to live the rest of his life alone.

As devastating as this fate would be for the gregarious Jimmy McGill, we’ve seen it before. El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie ended with Jesse (Aaron Paul) evading authorities, abandoning everyone he ever knew and loved, and fleeing to Alaska. That another character gets to escape with his life and without any legal consequences seems too good to be true. It also doesn’t feel deserved in Jimmy’s case. Jesse really was a pawn in Walt’s (Bryan Cranston) breakdown and Jimmy’s criminal gamble. As the episode “Breaking Bad” proved, Jimmy was never a pawn of the Heisenberg era but another mastermind.

3

Jimmy will die.

Out of all the possible fan theories, this is by far the bleakest. At this point in the series, we know that Marion has discovered that “Gene” is actually wanted attorney Saul Goodman. “Waterworks” ended with Jimmy fleeing from Marion’s house as she used life alert to call the police on him. Considering how hard it is to truly fall off the radar in modern America and all the shady characters it takes, it’s absolutely possible that Jimmy won’t survive this second attempt to escape his past sins.

4

Kim will take the fall for Jimmy.

Speaking of depressing possible endings, this one comes from Decider’s Nicole Gallucci. No one looks out for each other like Jimmy and Kim. He manipulated Mesa documents to get her a job. She married him so that she could help without legal threat. Volunteering herself as tribute is totally something Kim would do.

Depressingly, Kim has already taken steps to go in this direction. “Waterworks” saw Kim confessing to Howard Hamlin’s widow Cheryl (Sandrine Holt) all the terrible things she did to her former boss. Kim even admitted that Howard (Patrick Fabian) was murdered by a member of the cartel. If Cheryl wants to press charges, she probably could. And it doesn’t look like Kim will stop her. Apologies in advance to Kim’s new and very boring boyfriend for the loss of this smokeshow.

5

Jimmy and Kim will get their happily ever after.

If Jimmy dying is the worst outcome, this one is the best. If Jimmy manages to escape and Cheryl doesn’t pursue legal action, our dreams could come true, and Jimmy and Kim could get back together. Yes, they were toxic for each other, and yes, they brought out the absolute worst in one another. But no one understands Jimmy like Kim and visa versa. If they could find a replacement for their crime hobby, they could have a wonderful life.
