New Movies and Shows to Stream This Weekend: House of the Dragon, The Next 365 Days, Orphan: First Kill + More
The big news here is that the story that started with HBO’s biggest series of the last decade, Game Of Thrones, is finally being continued now that House Of The Dragon is here. The new spinoff series is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, a companion to his A Song of Ice & Fire books that were turned into the GoT TV series, the only question is whether or not there’s still momentum for more of this story to be told. Surprisingly enough, there seems to be plenty of momentum left in the controversial 365 Days series on Netflix. The third film in this trilogy about a man who imprisoned a woman in order to make her love him is out this weekend and it promises to deliver all the thrills and sexual intrigue as the first two films did. And in Orphan: First Kill on Paramount+, Isabelle Fuhrman reprises her role as the homicidal orphan named Esther

New on HBO August 21: House of the Dragon
There are three things I know to be true about the Targaryens: Blonde hair is a dominant gene in their family, they definitely own a few “My Other Dragon is a Dragon” bumper stickers, and they have a tendency to be… let’s say moody. House Of The Dragon is the first (successful) Game of Thrones spinoff, and in this prequel, we’ll learn all about the ancestors of Daenerys, Viserus, and Rhaegar. Set 200 years before the events of GoT, we’ll meet King Viserys (Paddy Considine), Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), and Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), who will go on to create the much-mythologized Targaryen empire.

New on Netflix August 19: The Next 365 Days
The Polish film 365 Days famously has a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and yet, in the year since its release on Netflix, two sequels have been made. The original film, about a woman, Laura, imprisoned by a Sicilian mobster named Massimo who gives her 365 days to fall in love with him… or else!… featured lots of sex, some of it violent, and that was, I guess, its selling point. A sequel, 365 Days: Next Day, was released in April, and included a plotline about Laura getting mad that Massimo was cheating on her, except that it wasn’t Massimo, IT WAS HIS EVIL TWIN! And now The Next 365 Days is available for you completists who need to know how this story ends. I’m not sure how you top “evil twin, but that’s why I’ll be watching.

New on Paramount August 19: Orphan: First Kill
After the death of their infant, Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard adopted Esther, played by Isabelle Fuhrman, in the 2009 film Orphan. Turns out (spoiler alert) Esther wasn’t the Russian child they thought she was, instead, she was a full-grown adult with a habit of posing as a child to kill the adoptive families that took her in. (No good deed, huh?) First Kill, a prequel to the original film, tells Esther’s origin story and co-stars Julie Stiles as Tricia Albright, Esther’s (first) adoptive mother.
