‘Rick and Morty’: What Is Wormageddon? And How Can You Win It?

Now you have a new reason to be excited about Rick and Morty Season 6. This week, Adult Swim has launched Wormageddon, an event they’re calling a “living episode.”

Don’t let the fancy labelling fool you. Wormageddon is a global treasure hunt, and it’s a pretty cool one at that. Wondering what you should start looking for and what you can win? We have you covered. Consider this your guide to everything you need to know about #Wormageddon.

What Is Wormageddon?

Get ready to take part in what Adult Swim is calling a “living episode,” but it’s easier to understand it as a Season 6 marketing stunt. Wormageddon is a real world treasure hunt. Somewhere around the world there are 14 unique and immersive scenes featuring some of your favorite Rick and Morty characters battling giant worms. If you discover one of the nine secret ones, you could win a prize.

Each of these scenes is part of an adventure that takes place between Season 5’s finale and Season 6’s premiere. “Facing a threat of complete global destruction, the heroes and antiheroes of Rick and Morty will team up against #WORMAGEDDON,” Adult Swim explained in a press release. “Between the destruction of the Citadel of Ricks at the end of season five and the beginning of season six, a new threat lands on Earth in the form of a mysterious alien worm that aims to take over the planet.”

But, as is always the case with this series, there’s a catch. This is a global treasure hunt, which means that installations can be found on every continent except Antartica. These installations are hidden in nine secret locations. Be the first to find one, and you’re going to get something cool.

What Can I Win During Wormageddon?

We’re so happy you asked. Each person who discovers one of the nine secret installations will win a golden Rick head. This is more than just a paperweight. This is an intergalactic badge of honor.

Because we live in a society, there are some rules participants have to follow. Eligible players have to be 18 years of age or older. Also, you can’t just find a secret installment and carry on with your day. In order to win a prize, players have to recite the secret code to on-site staff members. Naturally, that code can be found on RickAndMorty.com.

Where Can I Find a Wormageddon Scene?

We don’t know. That’s the whole purpose of this treasure hunt, my squanch. But we do have a couple of clues. According to the official rules for Wormageddon, there are currently nine secret locations in at least seven different countries. That list of possible countries doesn’t include North Korea, Syria, Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, Russia, and Ukraine. The rules specifically note that some if not all of these sculptures will be in remote or hard-to-find locations. Bring some water and prepare to hike.

How Long Will Wormageddon Last?

This treasure hunting contest will take place from Tuesday, August 23 through Friday, September 9. That gives you a little bit more than two weeks.

Have Any Wormageddon Scenes Been Found?

Yes. On Monday (August 22), the first scene was unveiled in Casa de Cultura Jesús Reyes Heroles in Mexico City. The massive sculpture is 13 feet tall, 12 feet wide, and 14 feet long, and it depicts Earth Beth and Supernova battling a worm. This Mexico City installation is one of the five non-secret scenes that will be unveiled over the coming weeks.

But one of the nine secret scenes has also already been discovered. A statue of Rick on the toilet as a worm wraps around him was found in Malibu, Ca. You have eight more opportunities.

What’s Going on with RickAndMorty.com?
