‘Hellraiser’ Reboot Creeps onto Hulu This October

Huluween just got a whole lot spookier. The streaming platform’s annual celebration of scary content will now also feature a reimagining of the 1987 classic horror movie, Hellraiser.

In a 15-second teaser released today by Hulu, we see a red lit-up figure, presumably the movie’s lead monster, Pinhead, before the screen flashes to the Hellraiser logo. While that’s the only visual we’ve been given thus far, the plotline says director David Bruckner’s version will follow a “young woman struggling with addiction” as she “comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.”

The ensemble cast will feature Odessa A’zion (Grand Army), Jamie Clayton (Sense8), Adam Faison (Yes Day), Drew Starkey (Outer Banks), Brandon Flynn (Ratched), Aoife Hinds (The Long Call), Jason Liles (Stereoscope), Yinka Olorunnife (The Transporter), Selina Lo (Boss Level), Zachary Hing (Halo), Kit Clarke (Leonardo), Goran Visnjic (The Boys), and Hiam Abbass (Succession).

In the 1987 flick, which was written by Clive Barker as well as based on his novel The Hellbound Heart, a woman promises to kill in order to heal her partially resurrected brother-in-law, who was murdered by opening the puzzle box that summoned the Cenobites.

Hellraiser went on to garner nine sequels between the years 1988 and 2018. It was also announced in 2020 that the cult classic had an HBO show in the works, which was described as a continuation of the franchise, rather than a reboot, per Deadline.

Bruckner’s reimagining of Hellraiser is set to creep its way onto Hulu on Oct. 7.
