Drew Barrymore Abruptly Cancels Taping For Season 3 Premiere Of Her Struggling Daytime Talk Show

Call her Drew Barry-LESS: according to reports, The Drew Barrymore Show has abruptly canceled the show’s taping for the Season 3 premiere, as the show works through unspecified “production changes.”

Guests for the show’s Sept. 8 morning taping were allegedly told filming would be “canceled” due to “production changes,” per The Sun. Those who had planned on joining the audience were given the opportunity to apply for two of the Sept. 15 tapings instead, or another day should they not be able to attend then.

The email read, “We apologize for the short notice and any inconvenience that this may cause to you and your party.”

When reached for comment by Decider, a show spokesperson downplayed any production struggles, stating that, “The show is still taping in the studio that day, the production schedules times just shifted as is common in daily daytime productions.”

The talk show, which averages 500,000 viewers per day (one-third of its ABC time slot counterpart, Live with Kelly and Ryan), will be produced differently for Season 3. Instead, Drew will air as two 30-minute episodes that will either premiere back-to-back or split.

After being renewed for a third season back in April, Barrymore told The Hollywood Reporter, “I am honored and grateful but I also want to take this show higher and continue to innovate and be a game-changer in the daytime space.”

She continued, “Rising to the occasion of finding people in the diverse way they watch is what I want to challenge myself with. Our show wants to be a bright spot not a blind spot and we just want to make people feel good. And I thank all the people who helped us get here.”

With a star-studded Season 3 guest lineup including Charli D’Amelio, Danny DeVito, Tyler Perry, Lena Dunham, Regina Hall, and more, it seems there’s still a chance for Barrymore to get those ratings up… If that premiere ever gets filmed, of course.

The Drew Barrymore Show Season 3 premieres Sept. 12 at 9 a.m. on CBS.
