Sydney Sweeney Under Fire After Posting Pics Of Mom’s 60th Birthday Bash That Some Say Was MAGA-Themed

Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney was accused of attending a MAGA-themed 60th birthday bash for her mom after she posted pictures of the event, which took place on Saturday, to her Instagram account.

The 24-year-old actress shared several photos and clips of the “hoedown”-themed celebration, where she can be seen sporting a cowgirl-inspired outfit, riding a mechanical bull and square dancing.

While the actress herself did not appear to make any political statements, one partygoer was spotted wearing a Blue Lives Matter shirt and others were seen wearing MAGA-style hats, similar to those worn by supporters of former President Donald Trump, that read “Make Sixty Great Again.”

The hats can be clearly seen in a photo shared by Sweeney’s younger brother Trent on his Instagram account.

Sweeney has since responded via her Twitter account in an effort to mitigate the backlash.

“You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my moms milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention,” she said. “Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone ❤️ and Happy Birthday Mom!”

Twitter users were quick to comment on the pictures.

One person claimed the actress’ post “exposed” her family’s political views. Another asked why she was “kicking it with people who are wearing blue lives matter merch.”

There were also several posts from her fans who came out in support of her.

“I’m angry at people’s politically ignorant reactions to Sydney Sweeney‘s mom’s bday party when they don’t realize it was country-themed,” said one user. “Just leave politics out of it. Sending lots of love to you and your family, Syd.”

Another wrote that she doesn’t “have to explain anything about your family to anyone!”
