Summer is coming to an end, but fall movie season is only just beginning. As the weather gets cooler and the schedules get busier, you may not have the time to spend a few hours in a movie theater every week. Luckily for you, you’re living in the era of the streaming revolution of film, TV, and media, meaning there will be plenty of fall 2022 movies coming to a streaming service near you.
From now until the new year, there are a slew of exciting new movies coming to Netflix, Amazon’s Prime Video, Disney+, and more. Your wallet may be hurting but the cinephiles in your house will thank you for access to highly anticipated titles like Netflix’s Marilyn Monroe movie Blonde, Hulu’s Hellraiser reboot, and Disney+’s live-action Pinocchio.
There’s a lot to keep track of, and we know you don’t want to miss a thing. For your convenience, Decider has compiled a list of the 23 most exciting films coming to streaming services—or films that we know will come to streaming services after limited theatrical runs—this fall.
'Pinocchio'
Release Date: September 9

Why We’re Hyped: No classic Disney film is safe from the hybrid live-action-CGI remake machine. That said, whatever your feelings on the trend of Disney live-action remakes of beloved animated films, it’s hard to argue with the logic of Tom Hanks as Gepetto and Cynthia Erivo as the Blue Fairy. That’s just good casting.
'Do Revenge'
Release Date: September 16

Cast: Camila Mendes, Maya Hawke, Austin Abrams
Why We’re Hyped: Any movie that teams up Stranger Things star Maya Hawke and Riverdale star Camila Mendes in a dark revenge comedy is an automatic must-watch in my book. But add on the fact that it’s directed and co-written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson—who already made Netflix audiences swoon with the smart-and-sweet romantic comedy Someone Great, and created the gone-far-too-soon MTV series Sweet Vicious—and you’ve got yourself a highly anticipated movie. (The hints at the more-than-friendship vibes between Hawke and Mendes’ characters don’t hurt, either.)
'Blonde'
Release Date: September 28 on Netflix, September 16 in theaters

Cast: Ana de Armas, Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale and Julianne Nicholson
Why We’re Hyped: Blonde is quite possibly Netflix’s most anticipated film of the year—though not all of the press is good press. The movie has been the subject of some controversy surrounding its NC-17 rating, related to its sexual content. But while Twitter is gearing up to tear down this adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ fictionalized account of Marilyn Monroe—starring Ana de Armas in the lead role—we’d rather give it a chance before we judge. If nothing else, with director Andrew Dominik, it’s sure to not be boring.
'Hocus Pocus 2'
Release Date: September 30

Cast: Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, and Doug Jones
Why We’re Hyped: How could anyone not be hyped for the return of the three most iconic witches in Halloween history? Twenty-nine years after the events of 1993’s Hocus Pocus, the spooky Sanderson sisters return to Salem to wreak havoc once more. This time, it’s up to three high school students (Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, and Belissa Escobedo) to stop them. Directed by Anne Fletcher, with a script by Jen D’Angelo, it almost doesn’t matter whether Hocus Pocus 2 is good or not—it will just be a delight to see Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy in costume again.
'The Greatest Beer Run Ever'

Cast: Zac Efron, Russell Crowe, Bill Murray
Why We’re Hyped: Green Book may not have deserved the Oscar for Best Picture, but at least director Peter Farrelly is returning to his action comedy roots with this new adaptation. (We all agree Dumb & Dumber is still funny, right?) Based on the book by Joanna Molloy and John “Chickie” Donohue, this movie tells the true story of a man who was determined to support the troops in Vietnam… by bringing the soldiers American beer. Here’s to hoping Farrelly keeps it light and doesn’t try to posit that beer can solve American imperialism!
'Mr. Harrigan's Phone'

Cast: Donald Sutherland, Jaeden Martell, Joe Tippett, Kirby Howell-Baptiste
Why We’re Hyped: You can’t have a spooky season without a Stephen King movie, and, thankfully, Netflix is providing subscribers with a new one. Written and directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side, The Highwaymen), this adaptation of King’s 2020 novella tells the story of a young boy who discovers he is able to communicate with his late, elderly friend via an iPhone. Sounds like classic King, with a modern twist. Sign us up.
'Hellraiser'
Release Date: October 7

Why We’re Hyped: Speaking of spooky content, who’s ready for the Hellraiser franchise reboot? Well, ready or not, it’s happening. Perhaps it will soothe classic horror fans to know that the OG writer/director Clive Barker is a producer on the film. Pinhead is about to be summoned again but will look a little different this time around. Hey, women can be sadistic demons from another dimension, too!
'Catherine Called Birdy'
Release Date: October 7

Cast: Bella Ramsey, Andrew Scott, Billie Piper, Joe Alwyn, Dean-Charles Chapman, and Ralph Ineson
Why We’re Hyped: After a long hiatus from feature films, Girls creator Lena Dunham has written and directed not one but two movies in 2022. But while Sharpstick was a dark, offbeat, sexual coming-of-age story, Catherine Called Birdy lightens the mood. An adaptation of a children’s book, this medieval comedy follows a fiercely independent young lady who refuses to follow the societal rules set by her wealthy parents. Also, the Hot Priest and Rose Tyler in the same movie? Yes, please.
'Halloween Ends'
Release Date: October 14

Cast: Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak, James Jude Courtney, Will Patton, Rohan Campbell, Kyle Richards
Why We’re Hyped: After 45 years of Jamie Lee Curtis trying and failing to kill Michael Myers, this epic slasher franchise is (supposedly) finally coming to an epic conclusion. The reboot-sequel movies in the Halloween franchise, starting with the relaunch in 2018, have never failed to entertain, and we’re sure this will be no exception. I, for one, am ready to watch Laurie Strode absolutely destroy Michael once and for all. And you can’t go wrong with that John Carpenter soundtrack.
'The School for Good and Evil'
Release Date: October 19

Cast: Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Laurence Fishburne, Michelle Yeoh
Why We’re Hyped: Director Paul Feig hasn’t missed since he released Bridesmaids, and yes, I’m including Last Christmas in that analysis. It’s a good movie, you Grinches! Based on the 2013 fantasy novel—which tells the story of two BFFs who are kidnapped and taken to a magical school—The School For Good and Evil is a new genre territory for Feig, which is often where he shines brightest. And with Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, and Michelle Yeoh in your cast, it’s hard to mess up.
'Raymond & Ray'
Release Date: October 21

Cast: Ewan McGregor, Ethan Hawke, Maribel Verdú, Sophie Okonedo
Why We’re Hyped: When it comes to picking projects, Ethan Hawke rarely misses. That’s why we have a feeling this indie drama starring Hawke and Ewan McGregor as brothers who reunite at their father’s funeral is going to impress critics when it premieres at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival next week. It’s also written and directed by Rodrigo García, who has a good track record, including Nine Lives (2005), Albert Nobbs (2011), and Last Days in the Desert (2015).
'The Good Nurse'
Release Date: October 26 on Netflix, October 19 in theaters
Streaming Service: Netflix
Cast: Jessica Chastain, Eddie Redmayne
Why We’re Hyped: We can likely all agree that it’s been a hellish three years for nurses and healthcare workers. So this crime drama—directed by Tobias Lindholm, written by Krysty Wilson-Cairns, and based on the book by Charles Graeber—feels particularly well-timed. Academy Award winners Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne star alongside each other as coworkers and fierce friends, whose relationship is tested by a series of suspicious patient deaths.
'Wendell & Wild'
Release Date: October 28 on Netflix, October 21 in theaters

Cast:Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Lyric Ross, Angela Bassett
Why We’re Hyped: Henry Selick—the director who brought you The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline—is finally back with a brand new stop-motion film. And this time, he’s teaming up with filmmaker Jordan Peele, who co-wrote the script with Selick for this dark fantasy comedy. More than that, this movie is also going to reunite Peele with his longtime comedy partner Keegan-Michael, as the two voice two demonic brothers who rope a 13-year-old into summoning them into the Land of the Living. You definitely don’t want to miss this.
'Enola Holmes 2'

Cast: Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter
Why We’re Hyped: If you saw the first Enola Holmes, you’ll know that it was a frankly delightful teen adventure film, starring Millie Bobby Brown at her most charming, as the obstinate 16-year-old sister of world-famous detective Sherlock Holmes. The Arthur Conan Doyle estate may not approve of Henry Cavill’s soft, gentle, hunky Holmes, but I would happily watch five more movies of that very thing. In this sequel, Enola takes on her first official case, to find a missing girl. Can’t wait!
'My Policeman'

Why We’re Hyped: Listen. It’s not great that Hollywood keeps casting not-gay men to play gay roles. It’s also not great that Hollywood keeps glorifying policing. I know this in theory. That said, I absolutely will be watching the Harry Styles gay cop movie the moment it hits streaming. Sorry. I’m only human.
'Disenchanted'
Release Date: November 24 (Thanksgiving)

Cast: Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Idina Menzel, Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown
Why We’re Hyped: Amy Adams may not yet have won the Oscar she deserves, but at least this year she’s returning to her most magical role: Giselle Philip, in this sequel to the 2007 comedy, Enchanted. Fifteen years after her happily-ever-after, Giselle, Robert, and Morgan move to a new suburb, where they find themselves targeted by the community’s leader (Maya Rudolph). With most of the original cast returning, I for one can’t wait for this song-and-dance fairytale.
'My Father's Dragon'
Release Date: November TBA

Cast: Jacob Tremblay, Gaten Matarazzo, Whoopi Goldberg, Ian McShane
Why We’re Hyped: Animation filmmaker Nora Twomey has been on a roll recently, earning Oscar nominations for both The Breadwinner, which she directed; and Wolfwalkers, which she produced. Both of these films have pushed the boundaries of what animated films can be and do, so we’re excited to see what she does with this adaptation of a children’s book, about a runaway boy who rescues a baby dragon.
'Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio'
Release Date: December 9 on Netflix, TBA in theaters
Streaming Service: Netflix
Cast: Gregory Mann, Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro
Why We’re Hyped: Yes, there are two Pinocchio movies coming to major streamers this fall. But unlike the Disney remake, this stop-motion animated musical fantasy drama promises to bring all the dark, weird, beautiful monstrosities that Guillermo del Toro is known for. Tom Hanks is compelling, but we have a feeling this Pinocchio will be much more fascinating.
'BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths'
Release Date: December 16 on Netflix, November 4 in U.S. theaters, October 27 in Mexico theaters
Streaming Service: Netflix
Cast: Daniel Giménez Cacho, Griselda Siciliani
Why We’re Hyped: It’s been seven years since Leonardo di Caprio fought that bear in The Revenant, but acclaimed Mexican filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu is finally back with a new film. Taking things back to his home country, Bardo centers on a Mexican journalist and documentarian who is compelled to return to his homeland after winning a prestigious award. The journey that follows is described in the official synopsis as “an epic, visually stunning and immersive experience,” and we trust Iñárritu will deliver on that promise.
'Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery'
Release Date: December 23 on Netflix, TBA in theaters
Streaming Service: Netflix
Cast: Daniel Craig, Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline, Jessica Henwick, and Ethan Hawke.
Why We’re Hyped: By this point, so many huge names have joined the cast of the Knives Out sequel, it’s sort of embarrassing for the actors who haven’t been invited. After Rian Johnson’s 2019 whodunnit mystery was such a rousing success, the expectations for the sequel are sky-high. Daniel Craig will return as Detective Benoit Blanc with a new mystery to solve—this time, in a seaside town in Greece. Even if it doesn’t live up to the hype brought on by the first film, surely it will be worth it to hear Craig’s Foghorn Leghorn impression again. (And we wouldn’t say no to another iconic sweater, either.)
'Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical'
Release Date: December 25 on Netflix, December 9 in theaters

Cast: Alisha Weir, Emma Thompson, Lashana Lynch
Why We’re Hyped: Netflix’s movie adaptations of Broadway musicals have been a little hit or miss—Tick Tick Boom was a hit, while The Prom, a miss—but my hopes are high for this take on the classic Roald Dahl story. Sure, you can’t live up to the ’90s Danny DeVito movie, but Emma Thompson as the Trunchbull is an inspired choice. And if you’ve seen the Broadway show, you already know that the music from composer Tim Minchin is incredible.
'White Noise'
Release Date: December 30 on Netflix, November 25 in theaters

Cast: Adam Driver, Greta Gerwig, Raffey Cassidy, André Benjamin, Alessandro Nivola, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Don Cheadle
Why We’re Hyped: Noah Baumbach’s overall deal with Netflix continues with the acclaimed director’s third movie for the studio. He is once again teaming up with star Adam Driver, and after the critical success of Marriage Story, expectations are high. It’s Baumbach’s first adaptation—based on 1985 novel by Don DeLillo—and follows a family whose lives are thrown into disarray when a chemical waste accident destroys their hometown. Reviews out of the Venice Film Festival premiere are so far so positive, and we trust Baumbach to take us on an emotionally satisfying journey.
'Spirited'
Release Date: “Holiday” 2022 TBA

Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell, and Octavia Spencer
Why We’re Hyped: We can’t wait for this whimsical, musical retelling of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, which will be on Apple TV+ around Christmas. Reynolds and Ferrell have been hyping up the film all year—so hopefully it won’t disappoint. The movie will feature new songs from La La Land composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, meaning it’s sure to feature some bangers.
