Hillary and Bill Clinton Once Accidentally Left Chelsea in the Kremlin: “It Was Pretty Traumatic”

Hillary Clinton and Chelsea Clinton‘s grand press tour continues as they hype up their new Apple TV+ docuseries, GutsyThe mother-daughter duo stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday (Sept. 6), where they played a game of “Mother Daughter Challenge” and Hillary revealed a “traumatic” vacation story from Chelsea’s youth.

In the bit devised by host Jimmy Fallon, Hillary and Chelsea took turns wearing noise-cancelling headphones while one of them answered a question and the other tried to match their response. When Fallon asked, “What is your craziest family vacation memory?” Hillary delivered a shocking reply to the audience.

“We had a lot of, kind of crazy times. I’ll tell you, I hope she doesn’t remember this because it was pretty traumatic,” she began. Fallon quipped, “Those are the best stories!” before Hillary continued with her story, explaining, “We took her to Russia — Russia — when we went on a state visit when Bill was president.”

She added, “You know, there’s the formal goodbye, so Bill and I were ushered into the ‘beast,’ the big limousine, to head to the airport, not knowing that we had left her behind.”

The audience gasped and clapped as Fallon did his typical Fallon shtick, silently cracking up and bending over behind his desk.

“I mean, can you imagine, leaving my only child in the Kremlin? Especially with everything that has happened?”

Chelsea then removed her headphones, remarking, “That was a long answer,” but not letting the challenge trip her up. Proving they really are a tight-knit pair, Chelsea matched Hillary’s vacation disaster story on her first try: “When they left me at the Kremlin,” she said confidently.

Gutsy, Hillary and Chelsea’s new show, documents the stories and experiences of brave women who have inspired the former Secretary of State and her daughter. The show, which is based on The Book of Gutsy Women, which was published by Hillary and Chelsea in 2019, features interviews with Jane Goodall, Kim Kardashian, Goldie Hawn and more.

All eight episodes of Gutsy will premiere Sept. 9 on Apple TV+.
