Hillary Clinton Rips Trump for FBI Mar-a-Lago Raid on ‘The View’: “I Don’t Understand How These Documents Ended up Where They Are”

Hillary Clinton ripped her former presidential opponent, Donald Trump, during an appearance on The View today, blasting him for taking classified documents from the White House and back home to his residence at Mar-a-Lago after his single term was up.

Hillary, who was accompanied on today’s episode by her daughter, Chelsea Clinton, took time from promoting her new Apple TV+ series Gutsy to talk politics at the Hot Topics table, and she wasted no time getting serious about Trump’s latest crime.

After the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago in August and found sensitive, secret government materials stored there, a new report from The Washington Post says documents detailing a nuclear program were among the items found by investigators.

Hillary said the latest news only proves the raid is “not a joking matter, and it shouldn’t be partisan.” She explained, “It should concern every American because those documents, and the empty folders they were marked, suggest that there was really important, secret information that is essential to our country’s defense and security.”

Referring to yesterday’s Washington Post report, Hillary said it was “terrifying” to think Trump had documents that “included information about — we don’t know which — an ally or an adversary’s nuclear program.”

She then questioned how Trump could have gotten the documents to his home in the first place, pointing to her own high-security experience with classified materials while working as Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013 as part of the Obama administration.

Hillary said “a military courier” would deliver documents to her office that were sealed in “a briefcase locked to his wrist.”

After unlocking the briefcase, the courier would stand and watch as Hillary reviewed a document containing “really delicate, secret information about something of importance.” After reading the material, she was required to sign proving she had seen it, then the document would go back in the case, she explained.

“I don’t understand how these documents ended up where they are,” Hillary told The View. “I don’t understand how he was permitted to take them, even to the residence, let alone to a country club in Florida. I don’t understand it.”

When Joy Behar piped up, “Where was the guy with the lockbox?” Hillary agreed, replying, “That’s what I’m asking! I don’t know.”

While “we don’t yet have an understanding” of what was in the documents, Hillary said, “people literally die to get our government information. They go to prison, they get exiled. It’s dangerous, oftentimes, and the idea that this would have been done, I hope that everybody takes really seriously.”

Although she had plenty to say about Trump’s dangerous actions, she stopped short of suggesting he’d be indicted for bringing classified materials home. Hillary said Trump’s future is dependent on what the FBI discovers about the documents, including how they got to Mar-a-Lago and who else could have viewed them.

“It’s not like they were in a vault,” she said. “They were in a storage room where people go in and out getting umbrellas for the pool or something else.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
