‘House of the Dragon’ Episode 5 Trailer Teases Another Bloody ‘GoT’ Wedding

House of the Dragon Episode 4 “King of the Narrow Sea” kickstarted Rhaenrya’s (Milly Alcock) love life in quite the scandalous way. Her uncle Daemon (Matt Smith) snuck her out of the castle to seduce her in a brothel, only to leave her unsatisfied. However, their public shenanigans were enough to stir gossip, much of which went straight to Ser Otto’s (Rhys Ifans) ears. Meanwhile Rhaenyra herself seduced her white knight, Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel), forcing him to break his sacred vows of chastity for one night of romance with the princess. If you thought things were moving a little slow these past few weeks, the House of the Dragon Episode 5 teaser trailer promises drama and bloodshed is nigh. Rhaenyra is finally going to have a royal wedding! And it looks like after being told she’s her dad’s “political headache,” Rhaenyra is going to marry cousin Laenor Velaryon (Theo Nate) like a good Targaryen princess. However, since this is the world of Game of Thrones, royal weddings are not happy affairs. The House of the Dragon Episode 5 promo teases that there will be bloodshed at Rhaenyra’s wedding. Maybe it’s not quite the massacre that the Red Wedding was, but knives will definitely be out.

What’s In The House of the Dragon Episode 5 Teaser Trailer?

The House of the Dragon Episode 5 teaser opens with ships sailing and Viserys (Paddy Considine) arriving somewhere that is most certainly not Kings Landing. In voice over, Viserys says, “I wish to propose a marriage…to my daughter and heir.” After a title card that says, “On the Next House of the Dragon,” we see a dwarf very spiritedly banging on a drum. Someone says, “A royal wedding,” as even more ships with the House Velaryon Seahorse take to the sea.

Then we’re back in Kings Landing. Viserys and Rhaenrya — all clad in white — rise from a feast table that’s been set up in front of the Iron Throne. People applaud as Viserys says in voice over, “I hope to herald in a second age of dragons.” We see two dragons fly over the water. Rhaenyra looks out over a sun set.

We cut to Rhaenys (Eve Best) telling her husband Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint), “Rhaenyra’s succession will be challenged.” Then there’s a quick montage of the Lannisters rolling into the royal wedding and a guilty looking Criston alone with Alicent. Rhaenys says, “Knives will come out.” Then there’s a montage of fighting at Rhaenyra and Laenor’s wedding feast.

There’s a shot of Alicent looking sad, Corlys looking like a badass, Daemon wearing a hood, and Otto says in voice over, “The king will die,” as we get a shot of Viserys looking half dead in front of his beloved model city of Old Valyria. There are some dramatic shots of Rhaenyra as Otto adds, “And if Rhaenyra succeeds him, war will follow.” Someone falls off a horse and Alicent shudders as she sees something happen in a courtyard below. Otto tells an upset Alicent, “Prepare Aegon to rule.”

Where Should I Pause the House of the Dragon Episode 5 Teaser Trailer?

Everywhere! No, okay, there are some key moments that caught our eye:

• 0:07 – Mushroom watch 2022: One key character from this story that House of the Dragon has yet to even shrug at is the court fool, Mushroom. As a little person, he’s known as dwarf and written off in court, but he witnesses a lot of crazy stuff. His bawdy version of events is often looked at askance in George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, but he already got Rhaenyra’s dalliance with Daemon and hookup with Ser Criston right. So wither Mushroom? Is this guy Mushroom? Who knows!
• 0:15 – “A Second Age of Dragons”: We see two dragons flying over the sea here and we are guessing these are most likely Laenor on Seasmoke and his mom Rhaenys on Meleys, the Red Queen. The red dragon doesn’t have the lankiness of Caraxes (or his itty bitty back legs) so, yeah, looks like we’re getting another dragon sighting next week!
• 0:25-0:26 – “Knives will come out”: So who gets in on the action at Rhaenyra’s wedding? Well, we see a random blonde guy bloodied up on the floor, Laenor pushed into a table, and then shots of both Ser Harwin Strong (Ryan Coor) and Ser Criston Cole punching dudes.
