Danny Ramirez And Daniella Pineda Ask For Help In ‘Tales of The Walking Dead’ Exclusive Clip

After six episodes, AMC’s Tales of the Walking Dead comes to a close this Sunday with a banger of an episode, titled “La Doña”, starring Danny Ramirez And Daniella Pineda. And in Decider’s exclusive look at the episode, we get to meet not just their two characters, but a mysterious old woman, La Doña Alma, played by Julie Carmen.

“Working with Julie Carmen was just… The biggest takeaway I have is how her career is unreal, she gave the real real on what it’s like in this industry when she came up into it, to what it is now,” Ramirez told Decider during an interview about the episode. “And the different battles that she had to go through in regards to continuing. Her association to the work was just different, and it was really inspiring to see what a massive success this was. She was like, ‘This is probably one of the first times I’ve been on a set where everyone is Latino or Latinx,’ and so, being such a massive percentage in a massive universe in that was like we got handed the keys to a really nice car. It was just fun to like see her light up and be like, ‘This is a massive step.'”

In the scene, Idalia (Pineda) and Eric (Ramirez) beg the woman to stay with her for the night, noting that they found her house thanks to a friend named Maria. The woman eventually relents, and offers them food, as well as water to wash up.

Eric is stunned that the water actually works in the house, but heads off anyway, leaving Idalia and La Doña Alma alone. That’s when the old woman levels with her younger counterpart — or at least tries to get closer to the truth. She doesn’t believe the story Idalia is telling her, and it certainly seems like, based on the way Pineda is playing the scene, that there’s something more going on.

…And, without getting into spoilers, there’s a whole lot more going on in this episode than two young people hanging at an old woman’s house at the end of the world. For those who have watched the previous episodes of the anthology series, this is more in line with the Parker Posey/Jillian Bell starring time-loop episode than the more classic Alpha (Samantha Morton) tale that aired a few weeks back. And while we don’t yet know whether AMC will return to this experiment, it’s wild swings like “La Doña” that could never happen in the main Walking Dead series that, in my opinion, make the show worth it.

Episode 106: “La Doña” – Premieres Sunday, September 18 on AMC (Streaming Sunday, September 11 on AMC+)

Idalia (Daniella Pineda) and Eric (Danny Ramirez) are a young, traumatized couple in desperate need of a safe haven. If they don’t find a place for the night soon, they will freeze, or worse – get eaten. Recognizing where they are in the mountains, Idalia recalls hearing about a secluded house belonging to a Bruja, who was dedicated to helping others prior to the apocalypse. Shortly after Idalia and Eric arrive at La Doña Alma’s home, unexplainable sinister events begin to occur. Idalia and Eric must find a way forward or risk being rooted in death forever.
