I’m Obsessed With Every Single Outfit in Netflix’s ‘Do Revenge’

Every single outfit that Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke wear in Netflix’s Do Revenge is an absolute banger. Every. Single. One.

As I was watching the new dark comedy directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (who also co-wrote the script with Celeste Ballard), I was constantly thinking to myself, “That’s the one. That’s the best costume in this movie. Surely they won’t be able to top this.” And each time, I was wrong.

The new dark teen comedy, which began streaming on Netflix today, teams up the Riverdale and Stranger Things stars for an elaborate revenge plot, with the goal of taking down two people who wronged them. Popular girl Drea Torres (Mendes) wants get back at her ex-boyfriend for leaking her private video, while socially-awkward outcast Eleanor (Hawke) has it out for the girl from her past who spread a nasty rumor that gave her a reputation as a sexual predator, after she came out as queer.

The two come up with a plan to “do each other’s revenge,” so that any investigation won’t be traced back to them. And what comes with any good revenge plan? A makeover, of course!

“So problematic,” Eleanor complains.

“It is,” Drea responds. “But it’s fun!”

How right Drea is. Eleanor gets her hair cut, dyed, and from then on, every outfit she wears is fabulous. Her school uniform—which she previously wore loose, with an untucked tie, her undershirt sticking out, and wrinkled pants—takes on an Emily in Paris vibe, with a little beret and a fashionable shawl. (Honestly, though, Hawke made the “just rolled out of bed vibe” work just fine, too.)

From there, the hits just keep coming. There is a clear bucket hat/long dangly earrings/shimmery pink robe pool party look. There’s an orange floral overalls/bright yellow crop top/matching floral hat look. There’s a sheer black floral top/bright, high-waisted yellow shorts look. (That last one holds a special place in my heart since it’s also the outfit in which Hawke finally, finally gets to make out with a girl. Stranger Things could never!)

Not to be outdone, Mendes has her own parade of exquisite ‘fits throughout the film. While Hawke is all flowers and primaries, Mendes is all feathers and pastels. There’s a yellow pleather jacket with a feathered fringe, cotton-ball earrings that look like they came straight from the 2006 Claires-era, and a fuzzy pale purple top paired with pale yellow pants. It’s like the Easter bunny, but hot. My favorite? The sheer robe with the lacey fringe that’s the color of everyone’s most coveted gel pen. You know the one.

The grand clothing finale for both leads is, of course, the big senior party they both attend, where the climax of the film takes place. Both ladies look absolutely killer. Hawke rocks a futuristic Trinity-from-The-Matrix vibe in an orange, zipper-covered tube top, shiny metallic pants, and a matching glossy trench coat. (A trench coat! Inspired.) Mendes is all steampunk vampire, in a sparkly green dress with a silver linked chain for straps. Together, they look ready to murder a man and collect on a life insurance policy.

Credit for this endless display of fashionable beauty should go to director Robinson and costume designer Alana Morshead, who recently spoke to W Magazine and said she was inspired by some of her favorite ’90s teen movies. “I loved Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion and 10 Things I Hate About You,” Morshead said. “I wanted to take those movies and update them to make them more current.” For Eleanor’s post-makeover look, Morshead described it as a “mod, ’60s vibe,” while Drea’s aesthetic was inspired by supermodels like Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, and Cindy Crawford.

The outfits in Do Revenge aren’t about realism. (Surely even rich teens with an endless income and access to professional stylists don’t look this good every day of their lives.) It’s about vibes, it’s about glamour, and it’s about giving iconic women iconic looks. The fact that we’re about a month out from Halloween is only a bonus. Who wants to be the Drea to my Eleanor?
