‘House of the Dragon’ Episode 6 Preview Reveals More Dragons and New Targaryens

House of the Dragon Episode 5 ended with a Game of Thrones touchstone: a death at a wedding. A heartbroken and irate Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) lost his cool and beat Laenor Velaryon’s (Theo Nate) boytoy Joffrey Lonmouth (Solly McLeod) to death. As chaos broke out in the throne room, one Ser Harwin Strong (Ryan Corr) carried young Princess Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) to safety, so that she could wed Laenor in a somber, subdued ceremony before anything else could go wrong. Elsewhere, young Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey) debuted a new look for court — a dress in Hightower battle color green — and won Ser Criston to her side with mercy.

That was this week, but what’s going to happen next week on House of the Dragon Episode 6? A whole damn lot!

As this week’s teaser trailer for House of the Dragon Episode 6 reveals, we’re jumping ten years into the future. To mark the time gone by, the HBO show has re-cast the key roles of Rhaenrya, Alicent, Laenor, and his sister Laena. As of next week, Emma D’Arcy will be replacing Milly Alcock as Rhaenyra and Olivia Cooke will take over from Emily Carey as Alicent. John Macmillan is replacing Theo Nate as Laenor Velaryon and Nanna Blondell is stepping in for Savannah Steyn as Laena. Confused? Wait until you meet the next generation of Aegons, Aemonds, and Velaryons!

What’s In The House of the Dragon Episode 6 Teaser Trailer?

The House of the Dragon Episode 6 teaser opens with a shot of Prince Daemon’s dragon Caraxes flying over water and then immediately cuts to the Small Council. A voice — that sounds like Jefferson Hall’s Tyland Lannister — says, “We should address the latest developments in the Stepstones, my lords.” Someone else wonders aloud where Daemon is. Then Alicent, who is on the Small Council now (!), says, “It was a decade ago and he has left the region undefended.” Then Rhaenyra says, “We have left it undefended, my queen.”

An offscreen voice asks, “What are children, but a weakness?” as a young silver-haired Targaryen looks on in awe at a dragon roaring fire back at him. Then we cut to a tense training scene where an older Targaryen boy in green pushes down a younger dark-haired boy in black. Ser Harwin Strong is there and he looks up worried at older-looking versions of his father and Viserys. The voice continues: “Through them you imagine you will persist forever.” We see a shot of an older Laena comforting a child of her own and then a dragon egg in an oven. There’s then a shot of a tween Aegon in the yard and we hear Alicent’s voice say, “You will be our king.”

One of Laena’s daughters removes a dragon egg from a fireplace cradle right before we see Laena confront Daemon. She says, “We are the blood of Old Valyria,” as the trailer cuts to the couple dragon riding together. Then we go to what may be the Dragonpit. A smaller dragon is being led in chains. The voice over continues, saying, “But for them, you surrender what you should not,” as we see Rhaenyra holding a baby next to a dark-haired boy.

The voice says, “A father compromised by the acts of the son,” while we see a tense scene between Lord Lyonel Strong (Gavin Spokes), Viserys, and Ser Harwin. We cut back to the training yard and an irate Ser Harwin is being pulled away from punching what appears to be Ser Criston Cole. We see the little dark-haired boys scurrying back in fear.

Alicent says to Viserys, “To have one child like that is a mistake. To have three is an insult,” while we get shots of Rhaenyra’s little white-skinned, dark-haired boys. Lord Lyonel tells someone, “People have eyes.” Rhaenyra cradles her baby in her arms. There’s a quick montage of Alicent, Larys Strong (Matthew Needham), and some dudes in jail as Viserys says, “The consequences of an allegation like the one you toy at would be dire.”

The last shot of the trailer is the oldest dark-haired boy excitedly saying “Dracarys” and the little mid-sized dragon we saw before responds by breathing fire.

Where Should I Pause the House of the Dragon Episode 6 Teaser Trailer?

0:18: “What are children, but a weakness?” Hey, folks, meet Aemond Targaryen. He is the younger son of Alicent and Viserys and will become quite the character in the story as it goes on. We know this is Aemond because later on in the teaser there is an older, tween version of Aegon (who gets the “you will be our king” line). In Fire & Blood, Aemond struggles to connect with a dragon early on, which leads him to try something extremely gutsy. Could this be that moment? Or just foreshadowing what’s to come?

0:33: “We are the blood of Old Valyria.” The trailer not only confirms her that Laena and Daemon are wed (and he’s the father of her daughters) but that Laena will finally ride Vhagar. Come to think of it, that’s our first shot of Vhagar!

0:45: “To have one child like that is a mistake. To have three is an insult.” Hoo boy, so yeah, you know how we’ve been constantly telling you to keep eyes on Ser Harwin and his crush on Rhaenyra? Well, that’s because in ten years’ time all of Rhaenyra’s children will look suspiciously like Ser Harwin Strong. The court gossip is that none of the Velaryon boys are Laenor’s kids, but Ser Harwin’s. This could be disastrous for Rhaenyra.

0:58: “Dracarys.” Assuming House of the Dragon sticks with the names of characters and dragons from Fire & Blood, this kid is Jacaerys Velaryon, Rhaenyra’s eldest son and heir. He goes by Jace and his dragon is Vermax. Now what is interesting here is that although this kid does not look like a Targaryen, he is definitely blood of the dragon. If he wasn’t, there’s no way he could get Vermax to take his command.
