‘Hellraiser’ 2022 Ending Explained: A New Cenobite Is Born

Hellraiser is setting the mood for Hulu‘s Halloween celebration, and this year they’re going full-on fright. The streamer dropped the full-length trailer for their reboot of Clive Barker‘s 1987 hit, the original Hellraiser, and if the nearly two-minute preview is any indication, this one’s sure to give us a good scare.

Today’s trailer opens with some ominous music before we hear the click of the infamous puzzle box, which a clueless soon-to-be victim is tinkering away at. As the pieces click into place, Pinhead (Jamie Clayton) and a group of Cenobites are unleashed, wreaking havoc and terror on everyone who is unlucky enough to meet them.

Hulu’s Hellraiser synopsis reads: “In the all-new Hellraiser, a young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.”

Spooky! But if that description alone isn’t enough to give you chills, seeing those “sadistic supernatural beings” in action certainly will. The trailer doesn’t skimp on the blood, torture and screams of its unlucky subjects.

Along with Clayton, the new Hellraiser stars Odessa A’zion, Adam Faison, Drew Starkey, Brandon Flynn, Aoife Hinds, Jason Liles, Yinka Olorunnife, Selina Lo, Zachary Hing, Kit Clarke, with Goran Visnjic and Hiam Abbass.

And Barker is involved too, contributing to the film as a producer. The latest Hellraiser movie marks the 11th film in the horror franchise, which includes four theatrical releases and six films that were released on VOD.

But make no mistake, the new Hellraiser is a film of its own and is not a remake, according to director David Bruckner, who told Entertainment Weekly, “I just didn’t think you could ever remake the original Hellraiser. It’s too much its own thing and it would be, I think, perilous territory for filmmakers because how do you top that? This is a new story in the Hellraiser universe.”
