Ana de Armas on ‘Blonde’ Nude Scenes Going Viral: “It’s Disgusting”

With one week to go until the world finally sees Ana de Armas’ highly anticipated performance as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, the actress is revealing how she feels about her nude scenes circulating online — something she is sure is going to happen.

“I know what’s going to go viral, and it’s disgusting,” de Armas told Variety.

The sexually explicit content has been widely talked about ever since the movie, which is directed by Andrew Dominik, was slapped with an NC-17 rating. While critics praised her performance, many Twitter users were quick to denounce the exaggerated biopic for “exploiting” the Hollywood icon when the trailer first dropped.

Regarding screengrabs of her nude scenes being taken from the movie, which is set to premiere on Netflix next week, de Armas said, “It’s upsetting just to think about it. I can’t control it; you can’t really control what they do and how they take things out of context.”

However, knowing the possibility of images of her body making rounds on the internet never steered de Armas away from taking on the role. She said, “I don’t think it gave me second thoughts; it just gave me a bad taste to think about the future of those clips.”

The actress also opened up about the risks she took in playing Monroe, telling the outlet that she “did things in this movie I would have never done for anyone else, ever.”

She added, “I did it for her, and I did it for Andrew.”

The film, which is a fictionalized take on Monroe’s life based on the 2000 novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates, received a 14-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival. Aside from de Armas, it also stars Bobby Cannavale and Adrien Brody.

Blonde premieres Sept. 28 on Netflix.
