‘Celebrity Jeopardy’ Fans Shocked by Simu Liu’s Winning Comeback: “I Don’t Think Anybody Was Expecting That”

There was a surprise turn of events during Sunday night’s (Sept. 25) premiere episode of Celebrity Jeopardy! when Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu came out on top.

Going up against Saturday Night Live star Ego Nwodim and Andy Richter, who made his first appearance on the quiz show in 2009 and remained in the lead for a majority of his second stint, Liu was the only contestant who guessed the correct Final Jeopardy answer.

The question asked for the world’s smallest landlocked country in both area and population. While Richter started with $21,100 on the board and waged $2,200, his incorrect answer brought him down to $18,900. Unfortunately for the talk show personality, he fell short of Liu, who waged his entire earnings of $11,600, bringing his final score to 23,200.

The plot twist left the MCU star, who said, “I don’t think anybody was expecting that,” as well as fans of the show, shocked at the outcome.

“Well congratulations to #CelebrityJeopardy for making me gasp,” one fan wrote. “The only time a game show has made me gasp that loud this year is when someone lost $430K on a Whammy earlier on #PressYourLuck.”

Another added, “That episode of #CelebrityJeopardy shows just how important final jeopardy! is because Andy was in the lead the whole time but got the final question wrong and Simu had enough to cover when he bet all.”

“A shocking twist to close out #CelebrityJeopardy! DOWN GOES RICHTER! That’s why you play the game!” someone else pointed out, while another added that Liu’s “face was priceless” when he won.

Celebrity Jeopardy! airs on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
