Watch Jon Stewart Refute Arkansas A.G.’s Trans Comments In New ‘The Problem With Jon Stewart’ Episode

A clip of Jon Stewart refuting comments made by Arkansas attorney general Leslie Rutledge about transgender therapy has been circulating the internet this weekend. The except is taken from the first episode of the second season of Stewart’s Apple TV+ show The Problem With Jon Stewart, which is now available to stream for free online.

Throughout the clip, Stewart calmly disassembles every false justification that Rutledge presents for her backing of laws that cut off trans Arkansas kids from access to gender-affirming healthcare.

He cites facts and figures, pushes back on empty rhetoric, and just generally backs her into corners that she cannot argue her way out of. Stewart uses his platform to force Rutledge to face the statements that the trans people hurt by her policies have been making for years, in a way that brings some visibility to the issues, and the lies so frequently told about them.

The entire episode—titled “The War Over Gender”—has been made available, for free, to anybody with an Apple account, regardless of whether you have an Apple TV+ subscription or not. Access to the episode includes the additional conversations that Stewart had with parents of trans kids, trans attorney Chase Strangio, and an endocrinologist to lay out the facts and realities of trans life in America.

He also called himself out for being too ready to use trans people as an easy and reductive punchline during his time on The Daily Show.
