Ted Lasso

Powered by Reelgood

It’s been ..sigh.. over a year now since we were last graced with a new Ted Lasso episode, and it’s pretty clear we all are going through mustached Jason Sudeikis withdrawal.

Over two seasons on Apple TV+, the world fell in love with the series about an American man coaching an English football (soccer) team, a sport he knows nothing about. And with Season 3 so close — yet ever so far — there needs to be something to fill the time until our favorite footballers are back on our screens. With that in mind, you can stream one of the below shows that emulate the same wholesome and laugh out loud vibes from the series we miss so dearly.

Another underdog story for your watchlist! This sports documentary series follows Ryan Reynolds (Blake Lively’s husband… Also, Deadpool) and Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as they purchase and manage a Welsh football club, Wrexham AFC. The main concern? Neither of them have any experience with football. Sound familiar? New episodes are still streaming weekly!

Tony is left gutted after the death of his wife Lisa. The once “nice guy” turns into a crotchety old grump whose main hobby is punishing the world around him for his grief. He must learn to deal with the “after life” without his wife. Created, written by, and starring Ricky Gervais, this British dark comedy is enough to make you both cackle, and dissolve into a puddle of tears.

'Sex Education'

Having a sex therapist mom means one should be pretty well versed when it comes to intimacy, right? Teenager Otis uses what he knows to pass on sex advice to the students of his British prep school, along with outcast student Maeve; while also having physically done nothing in the intercourse department himself. Not only is this show highly comical, but it does a top notch job of actually educating on sex, and including a diverse array of characters of all sexualities. The English accents and Hannah Waddingham content will also help put a band-aid on that Ted Lasso wound.

For more sporty content, FX show The League steps up to plate. An oddball group of friends in a fantasy football league try to beat and sabotage each other to win The Shiva Bowl Trophy. Of course, a plethora of NFL players make appearances throughout the show. A little Nick Kroll action helps ease that lack of Jason Sudeikis pain.

'Crashing'

Written by the Fleabag queen herself, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Crashing is about a group of misfit 20-something year olds living in an abandoned hospital to save money. Fun, right? The six episode series explores how each character comes to a halt in their life; realizing they’re actually full-fledged adults, and probably need to start taking life a little more seriously. Relationship are muddled, sexualities are questioned, quarter-life crises are in full swing. Be warned, there is no Season 2; Crashing will be a fun ride, but a short one, at that.
