Japril or Bust! ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Fans Aren’t Happy About Jesse Williams’ Season 19 Return

Welcome back, Dr. Avery! Jesse Williams has marked his return to Grey’s Anatomy.

Per Deadline, the Secret Headquarters actor will reprise his role of Dr. Jackson Avery in episode five of the new season of Shonda Rhimes‘ medical drama. He will also direct the episode, titled “When I Get to the Border”, which is scheduled to air on November 3.

The episode follows Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) as she reunites with Jackson while on a trip to Boston; Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Addison (Kate Walsh) while they road trip to volunteer at a family planning center; and the Grey Sloan interns who are growing curious about the relationship between Lucas (Niko Terho) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone).

As exciting as this news may be, Japril fans aren’t impressed. Those rooting for the fan-favorite couple, Jackson and April Kepner (Sarah Drew), were left disappointed after it was confirmed that Drew will not be starring in the episode. One fan wrote that they’re fine with Jackson’s return “as long as Japril [is] still together,” to which another fan responded, “I would prefer to actually see them together, rather than hear about it.” Others are leaving disparaging comments on Twitter, along the lines of “Japril or bust.” (#Awkward.)

“When I Get to the Border” will be the fourth episode of Grey’s Anatomy that Williams has directed, with the first episode being Season 14’s “Fight For Your Mind,” followed by “What I Did For Love” and “Save the Last Dance for Me”.

The actor made his Grey’s Anatomy debut in season six and was promoted to a season regular in the following season. He remained a regular until Season 17 when his character moved to Boston. That said, Williams can’t seem to say goodbye as he made an appearance in the Season 18 finale and has now set his return for Season 19.

Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. ET and is available for next-day streaming on Hulu.
