Is ‘Aftersun’ Streaming on HBO Max or Netflix?

Charlotte Wells’ feature debut, Aftersun, is the next drama to add to your list of movies to watch. Following its premiere during the International Critics’ Week at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the movie won a jury prize.

Starring Paul Mescal and Frankie Corio, Aftersun is a coming-of-age story about a woman as she reminisces on the last vacation she took with her father to the Turkish coast while simultaneously working to reconcile the man she knew with the one she didn’t, who was grappling with the weight of his life.

Here’s everything we know about how, when, and where you can watch Aftersun:

WHERE TO WATCH AFTERSUN?

For now, the only way to watch Aftersun is to head out to a movie theater when it releases on Friday, Oct. 21. You can find a local showing on Fandango. In the meantime, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on platforms like Vudu, iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play.

WHEN WILL AFTERSUN BE ON STREAMING?

Since a digital release date has not been announced yet, it’s hard to say when Aftersun will be available on digital. But based on previous A24 films, like Bodies Bodies Bodies, we can make a guess of around 45 days after its theatrical release, which would land around early December.

Bodies Bodies Bodies first hit theaters on Aug. 5 and it became available to available to purchase for $19.99 on digital platforms like Prime Video on Sept. 27. However, others movies, like Everything Everywhere All At Once became available around 70 days after its theatrical release.

WILL AFTERSUN BE ON HBO MAX?

No, Aftersun will not be on HBO Max since it is not a Warner Bros. movie. Last year, the company dropped its movies on the streamer the same day they premiered in theaters. However, they have since stopped doing that and, like many others, started allowing a 45-day window between the theatrical debut and the streaming release.

WILL AFTERSUN BE ON NETFLIX?

No, as of now Aftersun will not be on Netflix. However, it is possible that it will make it to the streaming giant eventually seeing as it’s home to other A24 movies like Uncut GemsUntil then, you’ll just have to head out to theaters or wait until it becomes available to purchase.
