‘Interview With The Vampire’ Exclusive: Claudia Chooses Her Coffin

Now that Claudia (Bailey Bass) has arrived on Interview With The Vampire, its time to get down to business and choose a coffin for the newly-minted member of the blood-sucking undead. And that’s exactly what happens in this disturbingly hilarious exclusive scene from this week’s episode, “The Ruthless Pursuit of Blood With All A Child’s Demanding”.

In the new look, Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Lestat (Sam Reid) have taken Claudia to a shop to pick up a sleeping place of her own. But where do you take the teenaged vampire who has it all to find the perfect resting place? A mortuary, of course, something that goes horribly, predictably wrong thanks to the confused undertaker.

“That scene was hilarious,” Bass told Decider’s Meghan O’Keefe during an interview about the episode. “It was so fun. I see how people could see it being so creepy but I did so much prep work that I was like, ‘This is like picking your race car bed that you wanted as a kid. This is the best thing ever.’ She also gets her privacy. It’s like finally getting your own room. And Claudia gets that.”

And if you’re wondering whether the coffin Claudia picks out is the right one? “Yes, my coffin was the most comfortable,” Bass added.

Here’s the official synopsis for this week’s episode, which was written by Eleanor Burgess, and directed by Keith Powell:

In his penthouse, Louis gives Molloy access to Claudia’s diaries, which offer a fresh and contemporaneous account of the creation of the young fledging vampire and how her Vampire guardians adjust to their new family of three.

Based on the books by Anne Rice, Interview With the Vampire updates the classic story to 1900s New Orleans; while reframing the titular interview through the eyes of an older, wiser Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian). You can check out the full clip above. Interview With the Vampire premieres new episodes at 10/9c on AMC, and a week early on AMC+. Head back to Decider after this week’s episode airs for a post-game interview with Bailey Bass.
