Mia Goth has been getting buckets of attention lately for her two 2022 movies X and Pearl. Filmed secretly back to back, the A24 slasher films by Ti West are part of a trilogy, and MaXXXine is set to be the third installment, following final girl Maxine after the bloody events of X. The English actress has made a name for herself in the world of horror. But while we wait for Pearl to come onto streaming platforms, Goth’s filmography includes other chilling flicks to be watched as this year’s spooky season comes to an end: Marrowbone, Suspiria and Mayday.
After moving to Maine to escape a figure from their past, the four Marrowbone siblings hide their mother’s death from authorities to avoid being separated. Keeping their distance from the questioning townsfolk, and covering all the mirrors in the house, the family is seemingly haunted by an eerie presence in their manor that aims to destroy them. Goth stars as Marrowbone sister Jane, alongside Stranger Things actor Charlie Heaton, and fellow scream queen Anya Taylor-Joy.
A remake of the 1977 movie of the same name, Suspiria follows ballet dancer Susie, played by Dakota Johnson, as she travels to Germany to join a famed dance company led by Madame Blanc. Susie arrives just as another dancer goes missing – and her disappearance is blamed on the school matrons who are an alleged coven of witches. They are believed to worship The Three Mothers; Mother Tenebrarum, Mother Lachrymarum, and Mother Suspiriorum. Goth plays another dancer Sara, who looks into the disappearance. As Susie dances her way to the lead of the performance, the supernatural forces at play are revealed. Tilda Swinton and Chloë Grace Moretz also star.
Mary. Alpha. Yankee. Delta. Alpha. Yankee. Mayday follows the journey of abused hotel worker Ana. After hearing voices and crawling into an oven, Ana finds herself on a mysterious beach in the midst of a war. She is introduced to a group of women who explain the land is a haven for women where they can live without fear of the violence of men. The women act as sirens, sending out mayday signals to surrounding men to lure them to their deaths. Goth plays the merciless Marsha, who teaches Ana how to bring the men to their demise. As Ana struggles to assimilate to the bloodthirsty schemes of the group, she realizes she is not the killer they want her to be.
So there you go… Plenty of spooky choices that aren’t Pearl or X. We are witnessing Goth make a huge name for herself in the world of horror, and one must partake in watching the Mia Goth Cinematic Universe this Halloween season.
