Drew Barrymore Says She Believed E.T. Was Real During Epic Reunion on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’: “I Would Go and Take Lunch to Him”

Drew Barrymore gave viewers a Halloween treat with an epic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial reunion on today’s episode of The Drew Barrymore ShowBringing on fellow castmates Henry Thomas, Dee Wallace, and Robert MacNaughton from the 1982 Steven Spielberg flick, the group reminisced about how a 7-year-old Barrymore believed E.T was real.

The actress told the audience, “I believed E.T was real. I really, really loved him in such a profound way,” before adding, “I would go and take lunch to him.” However, her E.T co-stars, who were a little older than her at the time they filmed the movie, had other adorable memories of Barrymore interacting with the alien figure.

“The first thing I remember is that we were on stage and it was quite cold on the stage and you asked the wardrobe lady if you could have a scarf for E.T.’s neck because he was gonna get cold. So you wrapped a scarf around his neck,” Thomas, who played Elliott, recalled.

Meanwhile, Wallace, who played the trio’s mother in the movie, had another sweet memory of Barrymore. Turning to the talk show host, she said, “We found you over there just talking away to E.T. so we let Steven [Spielberg] know and so Steven from that time on, appointed two guys to keep E.T. alive so whenever you came over to talk him, he could react to you.”

Barrymore joked that she had “a very wild imagination” before asking if she was “so annoying” on the set. MacNaughton, who played oldest brother Michael, said, “You always wanted to be in our gang … You were always trying to get in. We weren’t fully grown-ups so we would sometimes ignore you which is the worst thing that we could’ve done.”

But Barrymore, who remembered the cast feeling like a family, laughed him off, saying, “No, it’s what siblings do to each other. It was real. It was the best experience in the world.”

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays at 9:30 a.m. ET on CBS.
