Alyssa Farah Griffin Shames Fellow Republicans Not Speaking Up After Paul Pelosi Attack: “We Can’t Unequivocally Call Out Wrongdoing”

The View launched into a heated discussion on today’s episode about the threat of violence to democracy and which political party is to blame for the spike in incidents we’ve seen in recent years. The attack on Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, sparked the chat, which began as a discussion about the conspiracy theories spread by republicans about the assault.

Joy Behar called out republicans for their fear-mongering tactics ahead of the midterms, accusing the party of focusing too much on violent incidents.

“Republicans now, coming up to the next election … all they do is talk about crime, crime, crime,” Behar said, before pulling up stats showing that the murder rate in major cities has recently fallen in the past year.

She added, “Crime is not on the rise,” she said. “It’s actually going down under Joe Biden.”

But Alyssa Farah Griffin chimed in to counter her, arguing, “What is on the rise is political violence.”

Turning to look directly at the camera, she continued, “I want to say, unequivocally, political violence — left, right, center — is wrong. To those in my party who are not calling this out directly, shame on you. This is an 82-year-old man. [The attacker] has been charged with elderly abuse for what he did.”

Paul was attacked on Friday (Oct. 28) when a man broke into the San Francisco home he shares with Nancy. The attacker was looking for the Speaker, and when he couldn’t find her, he instead assaulted Paul, striking him with a hammer. Paul is expected to make a full recovery, according to a statement from Nancy’s office.

Griffin said the attack on Paul reminded her of a similar incident in 2017, but said the responses to the two attacks were vastly different.

“I was working for the Freedom Caucus when the 2017 congressional baseball shooting took place. My bosses were actually targeted at the time,” she said, adding, “Steve Scalise was nearly killed in that shooting. The difference is, every democrat roundly condemned it, and they rooted for his recovery.”

The conservative commentator then slammed members of her own party, calling them out for their reaction — or lack thereof — to Paul’s attack.

“What is happening, we should be ashamed of. Just the fact that we can’t unequivocally call out wrongdoing,” Griffin said. “I fear it’s gonna get worse before it gets better. I pray that that is wrong.”
