‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Season 2: Teaser Trailer, Release Date, What We Know

Need more Jeremy Renner in your life? Lucky for you, Mayor of Kingstown has marked its return to Paramount+.

Created by Yellowstone‘s Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, the crime thriller follows the McLusky family and their lives as power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan and the “thriving industry” of the local prison. The log line teases that the series features “themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality” as it “provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither.” Renner and Dianne Wiest lead the show as son and mother duo, Mike and Miriam McLusky.

Despite receiving mixed critical reception, the show premiered to 2.6 million viewers and became the network’s top original scripted drama (credited in part to Renner’s Marvel fanbase), following Paramount’s rebrand in March 2021.

Now, the series is returning for a new season, which is set to premiere early next year. Here’s everything you need to know about Mayor of Kingstown Season 2, including the teaser trailer and release date.

Mayor of Kingstown Season 2 Teaser Trailer:

Paramount+ released the Mayor of Kingstown Season 2 teaser trailer on November 1, 2022. The short clip (only 20 seconds) opens with a voice-over from Renner’s Mike, saying, “The consequence of a riot is our new reality, all that remains is chaos.” Flashes of Season 1’s deadly prison riot are shown in the clip, with a few overlays of still images of Mike. “The riot was just the beginning,” appears in text at the end of the teaser.

As seen in the clip, the events from the first season will greatly affect what’s to come, especially given Mike and Miriam’s intimate relationships with the Kingstown Prison, with Mike being a former inmate and Miriam running a teaching program for female inmates. Who knows how they will respond to the dangerous incident.

When Does Mayor of Kingstown Season 2 Release?

The second season of Mayor of Kingstown is coming sooner, rather than later. The 10-episode first season premiered November 14, 2021 with two episodes and ran until January 9, 2022. Now, roughly a year later, the new season will premiere January 15, 2023 on the streamer in the United States and Canada, and will stream the next day in the United Kingdom and Australia.

What Do We Know About Mayor of Kingstown Season 2?

Not much is known about the second season, however in an interview with Looper, Wiest teased a “change” for her character. The actor said, “She’s [Miriam] going to have a change, though, coming up in the second season,” and described her character as “filled with hate [and] rage.”

She continued, “She doesn’t believe in family anymore. All she wants to do is reach the mind[s] of prisoners. I think that’s a cover for fear of losing her two remaining sons, Jeremy [Renner] and Taylor Handley.”

Along with Renner and Weist, the series stars Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Emma Laird, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Nishi Munshi, Hamish Allan-Headley, and Aidan Gillen.

Munshi, who plays Tracy McLusky (wife of the youngest McLusky brother), confirmed that the new season has wrapped filming via Instagram. She wrote, “It’s been such an eye-opening experience. Heartiest congrats to our entire cast & crew family. We did it!” Just five days earlier, Renner teased that he was doing a night shoot.

Mayor of Kingstown Season 1 can be streamed on Paramount+.
