Enola and Tewkesbury Finally Kiss in ‘Enola Holmes 2’ and It’s the Cutest

Enola Holmes 2, which is now streaming on Netflix, gives people what they really want: Millie Bobby Brown and Louis Partridge being absolutely adorable together.

The sequel to Enola Holmes is every bit as charming as the first movie. This time around the younger sister of the world-famous detective of Sherlock Holmes, Enola (Brown), finally has her own detective agency. Sadly, no one will take her seriously… until a young girl comes to Enola with the case of her missing sister. The game is afoot! As Enola digs deeper into the world of matchstick factories, corruption, and disease, she finds herself needing assistance from an old ally… the dashing Viscount—sorry, Lord—Tewkesbury (Partridge).

When Enola last saw Tewkesbury in the first film, he asked her to move in with him, the absolute hopeless romantic. Enola, being the fiercely independent young woman that she is, declined, but promised to see Tewkesbury again soon. The two almost-lovebirds parted ways with nothing more than a kiss on the hand, sending the fans into a shipping frenzy. But fear not, because Enola Holmes 2 goes all in on romance. Tewkesbury is now an outspoken lord, fighting for progressive change in the British Parliament. He extends an invitation to Enola to attend an annual ball, but Enola, determined to launch her career, insists she has no time for distractions. (This doesn’t stop her from frequenting the park that Tewkesbury walks through every day.) That is, of course, until attending the ball turns out to be beneficial to her latest murder case.

(Warning: The rest of this article contains Enola Holmes 2 spoilers.)

Through a series of just-go-with-it events, Enola needs to learn how to dance like a proper lady in order to get the information she is seeking at the ball. She drags a poor, unsuspecting Tewkesbury into an empty bathroom, and explains that he needs to teach her how to dance, right now, for plot reasons. (Director Harry Bradbeer and screenwriter Jack Thorne are absolutely using fanfiction tropes, and I respect that.) Tewkesbury doesn’t bother to hide his loving gaze as he twirls Enola around the dance floor with confidence. Enola, meanwhile, is wide-eyed like a deer caught in the headlines, obviously swept up in Tewkesbury’s charm, and obviously terrified by that fact.

It’s all terribly romantic. But though they come close—their mouths just barely brush up against each other when Tewkesbury pulls Enola close in one particularly intimate dance move—these two nincompoops still don’t kiss in this scene. Thankfully, that oversight is soon rectified. In an ironic turn of events, Enola must teach Tewkesbury how to fight, also for plot reasons. While fighting lessons are less outwardly romantic than dancing lessons, it makes absolutely perfect sense for this couple that Enola hitting Tewkesbury in the face is what finally put these two in the mood for smoochin’. After landing several solid punches, Enola pulls Tewkesbury in by the lapels of his suit jacket and just… lays one on him.

The music swells, and the kiss stretches on, until, at long last, Tewkesbury pulls back, to say, wryly, “I may need more of those lessons.” My heart! It’s melting! This is the cutest thing ever!

As a bonus for the fans, in the film’s final scene, Tewkesbury buys Enola flowers, and though she protests and they bicker, it’s clear they are very much in love. All I can say is: finally.
