Disney+ is continuing its upward trend! The streamer reported that it gained 12.1 million new subscribers in its most recent quarter, bringing its total number of subscribers to roughly 164.1 million. This news was announced prior to today’s earnings call with the streaming giant.

During the last quarter’s earnings call, the streamer had gained 14.4 million subscribers, bringing the total number of subscribers up to about 152 million, and saw similar increases among its additional platforms, Hulu and ESPN+. The streaming giant reported an overall streaming reach of 221 million, compared to its current total subscription number is more than 235 million. This quarter, Hulu had an increase of roughly 1 million subscribers to reach 47.2 million total, while ESPN+ added 1.5 million subscribers to reach 24.3 million total.

“2022 was a strong year for Disney, with some of our best storytelling yet, record results at our Parks, Experiences and Products segment, and outstanding subscriber growth at our direct-to-consumer services, which added nearly 57 million subscriptions this year for a total of more than 235 million,” said Disney CEO Bob Chapek in a statement, adding that Disney+ plans to “achieve profitability in fiscal 2024.”

The latest stats follow the release of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Hocus Pocus 2, and Andor, with the latter title receiving an 92% approval rating from critics, clocking in right below The Mandalorian. Disney+ has also announced its cheaper ad-tier, which is set to launch in the U.S. on Dec. 8, and will bring price hikes for the alternative subscription plans.

Chapek commented on these changes, saying, “By realigning our costs and realizing the benefits of price increases and our Disney+ad-supported tier coming December 8, we believe we will be on the path to achieve a profitable streaming business that will drive continued growth and generate shareholder value long into the future. And as we embark on Disney’s second century in 2023, I am filled with optimism that this iconic company’s best days still lie ahead.”

This brings Disney+ about 58.97 million subscribers away from its rival, Netflix, who reported a 2.4 million subscriber gain in the third quarter, bringing their total subscriber number to roughly 223.07 million subscribers.

This holiday season is expected to treat Disney+ well, as this month will see the premiere of The Santa Clauses, Disenchanted (the highly anticipated sequel to Enchanted), and Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium.
