JoJo Siwa Calls Out Candace Cameron Bure for “Rude” Homophobic Comments

JoJo Siwa has reignited her feud with Candace Cameron Bure, this time slamming the Full House actress for her comments about creating “traditional” programming on the conservative broadcast network Great American Family.

Ahead of the release of her new movie, A Christmas… Present, Bure told The Wall Street Journal that the network aims to “keep traditional marriage at the core” of its programming, criticizing Hallmark’s shift to diversifying their releases with the inclusion of Black leads and same-sex couples.

Siwa shared a screenshot of an article titled “Candace Cameron Bure’s Plans for New Cable Channel: No Gays,” which reported Bure’s comments to the Journal, and wrote on Instagram, “Honestly, I can’t believe after everything that went down just a few months ago, that she would not only create a movie with the intention of excluding LGBTQIA+, but then also talk about it in the press.”

The So You Think You Can Dance judge continued, “This is rude and hurtful to a whole community of people.”

Back in June, Siwa and Bure clashed after the Nickelodeon star revealed on TikTok that she though Bure was the “rudest celebrity” she’s ever met. In a video obtained by Page Six, Siwa recalled, “I had a rough experience when I was little. I was 11, and I was a big, big fan, and I wanted to take a picture with her, and it wasn’t a good time for her.”

Bure responded by saying that she had since apologized to Siwa and felt “crummy” about the situation, and the two squashed the drama, conceding that it was “no big deal” in the end. But Bure proved that she didn’t learn her lesson. The takeaway she shared to her followers was: “Even a 10-second trending TikTok video can do damage because our words matter and our actions matter.”

During the incident, Bure’s daughter jumped to her mother’s defense, writing at the time, “God gave me the coolest Mama & Papa.”

She echoed those sentiments during Bure’s latest spat with Siwa, addressing her mom in an Instagram post yesterday (Nov. 15) by writing, “The media is an absolutely VILE space for negativity and I applaud you every time for how you handle yourself with the utmost grace. As they continuously twist the narrative to beat down on the Kingdom, you stand firm in faith and never let others dim your light for Him.”

She continued, “No matter how out of context or warped the words may get, the enemy will not prevail. Society has gotten completely out of hand with believing every strategically worded headline broadcasted by the media…followed by cancel culture which is nothing but ugly.”

Still, Bure finds herself mired in controversy as people continue to call out her Journal interview. One Tree Hill alum Hilarie Burton Morgan chimed in with her disapproval, writing, “Bigot. I don’t remember Jesus liking hypocrites like Candy. But sure. Make your money, honey. You ride that prejudice wave all the way to the bank.”

Bure’s latest comments follow her departure from Hallmark and her comments in 2021 where she praised the network’s diversity efforts, telling Insider, “It’s very important to me in all the casting that we do for the films, and it’s important to represent all people and all of their journeys and their family dynamics.”
