Where Was ‘The Wonder’ Filmed? Top Filming Locations

It’s been a big year for Florence Pugh. From Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling to her most recent role in the Netflix period drama The Wonder, the actress is making waves and establishing herself firmly as a fan favorite.

Based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Emma Donoghue, The Wonder stars Pugh as an English nurse who is sent to the Irish countryside to look over a young girl who has mysteriously been able to survive for months without eating.

While the plot is certainly intriguing enough, one thing viewers can’t help but notice is the picturesque scenery that appears throughout the entire movie. Looking to plan your next trip and hope to pull some inspiration from The Wonder? Here’s everything we know about where it was filmed:

WHERE WAS THE WONDER FILMED?

The Wonder, which began filming in August 2021 before wrapping in late September 2021, is set in 19th-century Ireland. Like its setting, it was filmed in the Republic of Ireland, more specifically in Dublin as well as County Wicklow for scenes that take place in the countryside.

But before you book your next trip, Pugh pointed out in an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers that working in the location wasn’t always as beautiful as it may have seemed. The actress recalled how windy it was “shooting on top of mountains,” where she would see “all four seasons in one day.”

In fact, she even recounted a story which resulted in her flipping over a sheep and landing in mud.

“I had a very simple scene where I had to walk across, just walk across the road like that, just walk but with really intense facial expressions going on. And as I was walking past this sheep, the sheep wouldn’t move out of the way,” she told Meyers. “So I like, gently patted the bum and that sheep went ‘Rrr!’ And then another sheep next to it went like, ‘Rrr!’ and then that sheep ran into me.”

She continued, “I flipped over the sheep and went straight down into cowpat. It was like full-on mud. It was great.”

So, you’ve been warned: if you insist on taking a Wonder-inspired Ireland trip, watch out for those sheep.
