‘Wednesday’ Sets New Netflix Record for Most Hours Viewed In A Week, Beating ‘Stranger Things 4’

Netflix found its niche with supernatural shows! The new series Wednesday has shattered the streamer’s record for most hours viewed for an English-language show in a single week, eclipsing the mammoth numbers seen by Stranger Things Season 4.

The streaming giant reports that Tim Burton’s teen fantasy series has been streamed in over 50 million households since its Nov. 23 debut.

Led by Jenna Ortega in the eponymous role, the show features a large ensemble cast and follows the infamous Addams daughter during her early years in Nevermore Academy.

The Netflix hit immediately gathered a large fan following, sparking fan accounts with over 17K followers on Twitter, TikTok covers of Wednesday’s creepy choreography at her school’s ball, and shipping wars.

According to Netflix’s most-recent Top 10 data, spanning Nov. 21-27, the series has taken over the #1 spot with over 50 million households viewing it for 341.23 million hours, beating Stranger Things, who previously held the record at 335.01 million hours.

Stranger Things‘s impressive viewership wasn’t noted until the end of its first full week, May 30 through June 5, after its May 27 debut. However, its first few days also shattered records at Netflix, marking the biggest premiere weekend ever for an English language series (beating Bridgerton) with 286.79 million hours viewed during its first weekend on Netflix.

Following Wednesday on the chart is 1899 with 87.89 million hours viewed, The Crown Season 5 with 87.89 million hours viewed, the fourth and final season of Dead to Me with 33.33 million hours viewed, and Pepsi, Where’s My Jet? with 14.16 million hours viewed.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, the fantasy movie Slumberland, which premiered Nov. 11, moved into the #1 spot on the English-language list with 45.43 million hours viewed and appears on the Top 10 list in 93 countries. Next, The Noel Diary occupies the #2 spot with 36.27 million hours viewed and The Swimmers in #3 with 22.48 million hours viewed.

Trailing in fourth and fifth place is Florence Pugh’s The Wonder and Lindsey Lohan’s Falling For Christmas.

Wednesday is currently streaming on Netflix.
