Whoopi Goldberg Punctures Herschel Walker’s Dreams of Being an Immortal Werewolf on ‘The View’

Someone’s been watching What We Do in the Shadows. Whoopi Goldberg proved on this morning’s episode of The View that she knows her vampires from her werewolves, unlike a certain Georgia Senate candidate. After Herschel Walker tried to diss his opponent, Raphael Warnock, using a fantasy analogy, Goldberg set the record straight, beginning with the basic definitions of the spooky creatures.

Her valuable lesson came as The View panel discussed the upcoming Georgia Senate runoff election, which takes place tomorrow (Dec. 6), and the tense race between Walker and incumbent Warnock. During Hot Topics, the show played a clip of Walker on the campaign trail telling the crowd at a recent rally, “A werewolf can kill a vampire … I never knew that, so I didn’t want to be a vampire anymore. I wanted to be a werewolf.”

They followed the clip with a response from former president Barack Obama, who made fun of Walker while campaigning for Warnock. Obama told the crowd, “Mr. Walker has been talking about issues that are of great importance to the people of Georgia, like whether it’s better to be a vampire or a werewolf. This is a debate that I must confess I once had myself … when I was seven. Then I grew up.”

According to The Hill, Walker had mentioned the werewolf and vampire comparison while attempting to create a metaphor for the Senate race from a movie he’d recently seen, in which “a person tried unsuccessfully to defeat a vampire … using holy water and a cross.”

Goldberg, after playing the clips of Walker and Obama, looked into the camera to deliver a deadpan explanation of how vampires differ from werewolves. And it sure sounds like she’s a fantasy fan.

“I’m just gonna say this so that everybody is clear about this: First of all, werewolves are mortal. Okay? Vampires are immortal. Vampires can fly. I guess he was talking about faith because he’d seen a movie where an atheist couldn’t kill a vampire with a cross,” she said.

After furrowing her brow in confusion, Goldberg continued, “You don’t actually need faith to kill a vampire. I mean, if we’re gonna talk about these things, let’s really talk about them in their entirety.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC. Watch the full Walker segment from this morning’s show in the video above.
