‘Emily in Paris’ Season 3 Episode 10 Recap: Oh, Bébé

Gabriel is taking his restaurant ownership and really running with it. After stepping up into a bigger role in his business, he’s transforming the place, and Emily watches as he gives his spot a makeover, and pulls some inspiration from the namesake herself, his grandma Gigi (who very clearly favors Emily over Camille).

After Gabriel got engaged last episode, he and Camille are throwing a party to celebrate, and Camille, who is powering through a tense moment with Gigi in Gabriel’s kitchen, invites Emily, Alfie, Mindy and Nicolas to attend.

At work that day, Emily is angling to help get Gabriel a Michelin star, his dream, and Luc’s ex just so happens to be a Michelin inspector. He gets plotting and texts her, while Emily skips off to lunch with Mindy. While dining there, they spot Camille and Sofia, who are very clearly fighting, but immediately stop once they realize they’ve been recognized. After a mildly awkward but ultimately cordial hello, Emily and Mindy leave, and Mindy immediately says Emily has to intervene, especially now that Sofia is back in Paris “for work.”

At Gabriel’s restaurant that evening, Luc has followed through and walks through the door with his ex, Marianne, whom he’s invited to try Gabriel’s food. Mindy, Alfie and Emily are there too, and Emily tries to slyly tell Gabriel that he has an important guest there that night, but he doesn’t seem to get the hint.

Alfie, meanwhile, is explaining to Mindy what really happened at her party when Emily abruptly left. Mindy doesn’t believe him initially, but is convinced pretty quickly and apologizes to Emily for the way her shitty boyfriend treated her. Just break up with him, already!

A very dramatic confrontation ensues at Nicolas’ place after dinner, where Mindy calls him out for getting in “a pissing match” with Emily, and leaves after telling him to “think hard” about their relationship.

While we’re waiting for Nicolas’ answer, the day of Gabriel and Camille’s engagement party has arrived, and Emily shows up in one of her best looks of the season: a ruffled floral number. Mindy and her questionable style are nowhere in sight; instead, she’s at home waiting for a text from Nicolas, who is not answering her after their fight. Apparently, the two were planning to meet and go to the party together, but he’s not holding up his end of the bargain.

After texting him one last time, telling him her boyfriend he “blew it,” Mindy hears a knock on the door, and it’s Benoit, who in a truly absurd twist of events has been chosen for Eurovision…which means Mindy has, too. He reveals that he submitted the song that Emily wanted to use in a sunscreen commercial for the singing competition, and Mindy is thrilled. So thrilled that she almost kisses him, but her phone buzzes and interrupts them.

Back at the party, Emily goes inside for a drink and hears Camille on the phone talking about “figuring things out,” so naturally, she asks if Sofia was on the line and confesses that she saw the two of them kissing. Camille tells her, “our secrets are what will keep us close,” which is a deranged thing to say at your engagement party about your secret lover. She brushes off Emily’s concerns and walks away, and minutes later, they’re all seated at a table like the big, happy party they are.

Just as Camille’s dad is making a toast to the couple, Mindy manages to upstage the whole party by arriving via helicopter with Nicolas, who pulled through after all. Once they disembark, Nicolas apologizes to Emily and she accepts, so it seems like all is well between these two rivals (for now, anyway. I don’t trust Nicolas).

Later that night, Emily gets a call at the party from Luc, who is back at Gabriel’s restaurant with his ex, who says Gabriel is “headed for a Michelin star.” Emily relays the news to Gabriel, who is basically drooling with happiness, telling her, “You came to gray Paris and brought up the sunshine for all of us.” Again, a deranged thing to say at your engagement party about your former lover.

Camille spies him kissing Emily’s hand and hugging her, and she’s not happy, but seems to be fine when he finds her a moment later and says he’s so excited about the Michelin news that he wants to get married right then and there.

Happily ever after, right? Very wrong. In the chapel, Camille breaks down during the ceremony, telling Gabriel they’re only together because she knew he was in love with Emily, and then reveals the details of their pact. She stayed with him to keep Gabriel from Emily, but after seeing that Gabriel and Emily are clearly in love, she can’t marry him.

As Camille storms out, Alfie does too after hearing Camille’s whole speech, and tells Emily he’s not going to be her second choice, so she should go get her man. Cold, but true. While I feel kind of bad for him after they just publicly revealed their relationship last episode, that seems to be firmly in the past now. Even a romantic hot air balloon can’t save these two.

Emily and Gabriel reunite outside after being dumped by their respective partners, and she tells him she thought the pact was “the right thing” while confessing that she always had feelings for him. Not much of a shocker, but what follows certainly is: Gabriel drops the huge bomb that Camille is pregnant, and that’s why they actually got engaged.

What does this mean for Gabriel and Camille? Nothing good, if you ask me. I suspect Emily and Gabriel will find their way back to one another in some form — after all, Netflix has already renewed Emily in Paris for Season 4, so there’s much more to this story.
