Will ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ Have a Season 2 on Netflix?

One of the biggest complaints about modern TV is that every show is too long. Not The Witcher: Blood Origin. At only four episodes, Netflix‘s prequel is over almost as soon as it starts to hook you.

That begs a very important question: Is The Witcher: Blood Origin going to have a Season 2? And if not, is there any chance we may see more of these characters? We spoke to the cast and creators of this miniseries, and we have answers. Spoilers ahead.

Will The Witcher: Blood Origin Have a Season 2?

Chances are high that this is all we’ll be seeing of The Witcher: Blood Origin. The four-episode prequel has been marketed as a miniseries. That mean the actors, creators, and crew only signed on to do one season. Of course, people could come back, but that would require renegotiation as well as changing this show from a miniseries to a regular series.

Long story short? Blood Origin could have a Season 2, but unless Netflix viewership is through the roof, it seems unlikely.

Could Characters from The Witcher: Blood Origin Appear in The Witcher Universe?

Though it’s unclear whether a continuation of this story would take the form of a second season, another miniseries, or an entry in the main Witcher show, the creators and star of this miniseries are open to its continuation. “I can say I had the greatest time on this series. It will remain something that was the best period of my life,” Sophia Brown told Decider.

Blood Origin’s co-creator Declan de Barra intentionally wrote this series with the future in mind. “I was being very sneaky. [Netflix] told me to write a close-ended thing, and I did. I wrote a close-ended thing but, basically anyone who hasn’t died, who knows?” de Barra told Decider. “Time travel exists, you know, so pick your favorite people. Let’s hope that they get into other worlds in future Witcher worlds.”

Blood Origin certainly leaves room for these characters to return in some capacity. Blood Origin’s finale ends with five members of the original seven still alive: Éile (Sophia Brown) the Lark; Scian (Michelle Yeoh), the last of the Ghost Tribe; Zacaré (Lizzie Annis) the sorceress; the hulking Brother Death (Huw Novelli), and Meldof (Francesca Mills) the axe-wielding warrior. A lot of remaining characters means more room for continuations. And there’s a sixth member of the gang on the way.

In Blood Origin‘s finale, it’s revealed that Éile is pregnant with Fjall’s (Laurence O’Fuarain) baby. Adding to this interconnected universe, Seanchai (Minnie Driver) the shapeshifter implies that unborn child is related to our favorite bard, Jaskier (Joey Batey). That’s right; Jaskier likely hails from one of the greatest bards in the history of the Continent and the very first witcher. No wonder he loves Geralt so much.

At the end of the day, the decision comes down to viewership and whether Netflix thinks it’s worth the cost. But the idea of a second Blood Origin season isn’t an implausible one.
