Andy Cohen Accuses James Corden of Ripping Off His ‘WWHL’ Set, Says He Was “The First Bar on Late Night”

Andy Cohen likely won’t be shedding any tears when James Corden signs off from The Late Late Show for good next year. The Watch What Happens Live host accused Corden of copying the set of his Bravo talk show, claiming that Corden used his idea by adding a bar to his own show.

While chatting on the Dec. 27 episode of the Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi podcast, Cohen said he was the first to bring a boozy set to late night, and noticed that Corden swiped his idea when he took over as The Late Late Show host.

“I think there has been a traditional idea of what a late night talk show is, and I would argue that Watch What Happens Live redefined what the late night talk show is,” Cohen said, before explaining to Bozzi that his show “was the first bar on late night, [then] James Corden got a bar.”

As he added, “James Corden kind of wound up…,” Bozzi chimed in to add, “Ripping off your set.”

Cohen agreed, replying, “There you go. I am so glad we’re still going. [The Late Late Show] is, like, great, copy my set … go with God.”

While chatting with Bozzi, Cohen also admitted that he’s often felt like an outsider on late night, despite the success of his long-running show, which has been on the air since 2009.

“I don’t feel totally part of the [late night television] group and I have been on late night TV for 13 years,” Cohen said, before recalling a Vanity Fair photoshoot years ago featuring a group of prominent talk show hosts, but excluding him. Pulling Corden into the conversation again, Cohen said, “they left me out of it, but they added in James Corden who wasn’t even on the air yet and Trevor Noah who had just started.”

Cohen said he later got an apology from the magazine, with former editor Graydon Carter himself admitting he should have included Cohen.

The Late Late Show airs weeknights 12:37am/11:37pm on CBS. Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursday at 10/9c on Bravo.
