The View is back today, and the talk show is honoring the woman who made it all happen, Barbara Walters. The long-running series is airing a special this morning to celebrate the life and legacy of its creator, Walters, who died at 93 on Friday (Dec. 30). The View promoted the special across its socials on Saturday (Dec. 31), teasing the return of the show after its winter hiatus, which will kick off with an upcoming episode dedicated to the TV icon.
In a clip posted to The View‘s Twitter, images of Walters on the show over the years with famous guests play as a voiceover shares, “This was her idea, her passion, her show. Tuesday on The View, celebrate the one, the only, Barbara Walters.”
Walters hasn’t appeared on The View in years, but the show wouldn’t exist without her. The pioneering news anchor created The View in 1997 and remained on the show as a co-host until her retirement in 2014. The show saw her off on her final episode with guests like Oprah Winfrey, Diane Sawyer, Robin Roberts, Katie Couric, Meredith Viera and more female journalists.
Today’s show not only marks the celebration of Walters’ life, but also the first View episode of 2023. The show has been on hiatus since Dec. 19, but we can expect to see Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin back around the Hot Topics table today — but will we be seeing them in realtime?
