2023 Golden Globes Host: Meet Jerrod Carmichael

The 2023 Golden Globes have arrived to add a little glitz and glamour to your Tuesday night. The annual award show, which was off the air last year, has returned in all its glory to NBC, where it will be broadcast live tonight. The event will be star-studded as ever, with nominees like James Cameron, Viola Davis and Daniel Craig all up for awards this evening.

Of course, we’ll have a buzzy host to guide us through the night, too. The Golden Globes isn’t known to stray from the usual, having tapped Ricky Gervais to host multiple times in the past, and also repeatedly hiring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for the job.

But this year, they’re going with someone entirely new. Who is hosting the Golden Globes? Here’s everything you need to know.

Who Is Hosting the Golden Globes?

The 2023 Golden Globe Awards will be hosted by Jerrod Carmichael. The comedian was named host in early December 2022. In a statement shared with Variety, HFPA president Helen Hoehne revealed Carmichael would be leading the 80th annual award show.

“We’re so excited to have Jerrod Carmichael host the historic 80th Golden Globe Awards,” Hoehne said at the time. “His comedic talents have entertained and thrilled audiences while providing thought-provoking moments that are so important in the times we live. Jerrod is the special kind of talent this show calls for to kick off the awards season.”

Who Is Jerrod Carmichael?

Carmichael is a comedian known for his specials, including his Emmy Award-winning Rothaniel. He has also worked as an executive producer on shows like Rel and Ramy, and has acted in multiple projects. It’s likely you’ve seen Carmichael in one of his earlier roles, like in Neighbors, Comedy Bang! Bang!, The Meddler or The Disaster Artist. Or maybe, you spotted him more recently in The Carmichael ShowFerdinand or Mid90s, or caught his Saturday Night Live hosting gig.

The comedian, who was born in North Carolina, moved to Los Angeles to kickstart his comedy career when he was just 20. Fifteen years later at age 35, he’s earned a Primetime Emmy Award and been nominated for a Gotham Award and a Sundance Film Festival award.

The 2023 Golden Globe Awards air tonight, Jan. 10, at 8/7c on NBC.
