‘Abbott Elementary’ Renewed for Season 3 Following Globes Win

School’s back forever! …or at least for one more season. At the Television Critics Association’s 2023 winter tour, ABC announced that Abbott Elementary was renewed for a Season 3. Considering the critical praise and awards buzz around the comedy, this may be one of the least surprising renewals of the winter. But it’s still nice to see.

The renewal comes on the heels of Abbott Elementary’s several wins at the 80th Golden Globes Awards. The series took home three major awards: Best Musical or Comedy, Quinta Brunson for Best Actress in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy, and Tyler James Williams for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy.

In addition to its critical and awards success, the comedy has been a ratings hit for ABC. According to a press release form the network, the comedy has delivered a 3.58 rating when it comes to adults ranging from 18 to 49 years old after 35 days of viewing across platforms. It averages 9.1 million total viewers over 35 days of cross-platform viewing, which is an increase of 13 percent from last year. Season 2 has also seen a 31 percent increase in audience over its previous installment, making it ABC’s No.1 series this season. Basically, Quinta Brunson’s school comedy is a certified hit. No wonder ABC wanted more.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of watching Abbott Elementary, stop what you’re doing and go watch it now. It’s streaming on Hulu and HBO Max. The series follows a group of elementary school teachers as they navigate the daily joys and headaches of working in an under-funded school in Philadelphia. Packed with heart and fueled by possibly the best will-they, won’t-they currently on television, Abbott Elementary is a sweet, funny sitcom that will fill the Parks and Recreation-shaped hole in your heart. The series was created by Brunson, and new episodes air on ABC Wednesdays at 9/8c p.m.
